DescriptionThe whole story▼
In autumn, woodland race tracks change character. A layer of wet leaves covers roots and rocks, and the grip that was there in summer disappears. On a KTM 450 XC-F the rear brake then needs a light, precise touch, because a locked rear wheel slides on leaves as though on ice. Accossato lists its DK018 fixed rear disc for the 450 XC-F from 2006 to 2026. It is a one-piece disc, 220 mm across with a 110 mm opening and a thickness of 4 mm.
Key Features
- Fixed rear disc for the KTM 450 XC-F, 2006 to 2026
- One piece; steel-made according to the supplier
- 220 mm and 110 mm diameters, 4 mm thickness
- Interchangeable with the original equipment disc, as Accossato describes it
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- Covers both 450 XC-F version lines on Accossato's list
- No German ABE documented; competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato makes the DK018 as a fixed disc without rivets or carrier, a single piece described by the supplier as steel-made. On the rear wheel of a cross-country bike that simplicity has a practical side: there are no gaps where mud can pack in and nothing that can rattle. According to Accossato, its engineering draws on Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3, and it names restrained weight as one advantage of its discs, helping steering and control. The minimum working thickness is marked on the disc.
Feathering the Rear on Wet Leaves
Feathering means working the pedal in small, gentle steps instead of stamping on it. On leaves, the difference between slowing down and sliding is a few millimetres of pedal travel, so riders keep the ball of the foot on the pedal and press progressively, feeling for the point where the tyre starts to slip. On a wet, leafy descent the rear brake often does more of the work than the front, because a sliding front wheel is much harder to recover.
Riding like this depends on a brake that responds evenly. A rear disc that has worn unevenly, or picked up a glaze from a dragging pad, grabs at one point of each revolution and lets go at another, and on leaves that is enough to break traction. After a wet race on the 450 XC-F, check the disc for bright, glassy patches and for grooves, and clean it with water and a soft brush rather than a degreaser that might reach the pads. Look at the pedal as well: one that sits too high can make you brake without meaning to. And measure the disc regularly, because a rear disc used this way wears steadily, a little on every descent.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK018 for the KTM 450 XC-F in two lines, 2006 to 2017 and 2018 to 2026, and describes it as interchangeable with the original rear disc for the whole period. For the front, the DK017 is listed from 2006 to 2017. The 450 XC-F has a single rear disc. Accossato's range also includes the B8283 brake lever and C7283 clutch lever for this bike.
Road Approval
No German ABE and no type approval are on file for the DK018; like the 450 XC-F, it is intended for closed-course racing.
Scope of Delivery
One DK018 rear disc, nothing else in the package.
