DescriptionThe whole story▼
Rear discs on enduro bikes live in a rough neighbourhood. Low down beside the swingarm, the rear disc of a KTM 450 EXC-F is exposed to every rock, root and stump the bike rolls over, which is why so many riders fit a guard over it. A guard solves one problem and can create another. Accossato's DK018 is a fixed rear disc for the 450 EXC-F, listed from 2003 to 2026, made in one piece and measuring 220 mm across with a thickness of 4 mm.
Key Features
- Fixed rear brake disc for the KTM 450 EXC-F, 2003 to 2026
- One-piece off-road disc, steel-made as the supplier describes it
- 220 mm outer diameter, 110 mm inner diameter, 4 mm thick
- Takes the place of the original rear disc; Accossato calls it interchangeable
- Minimum thickness printed on the disc
- No German ABE on record; off-road and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato's catalogue puts the DK018 among its off-road discs. It is a fixed disc, so there is no carrier, no rivet and nothing that can work loose between ring and centre: the whole part is a single piece, steel-made in the supplier's words, with a 110 mm opening. Accossato links the performance of its discs to engineering knowledge gathered in road racing, naming Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3, and to careful choice of raw material. The minimum working thickness is printed on the disc, which turns the regular wear check into a matter of seconds with a vernier calliper.
Behind the Disc Guard
A rear disc guard protects the disc of a 450 EXC-F from direct hits, but it also forms a pocket. Mud packs into it, small stones get caught between guard and disc, and the guard hides what is happening underneath. A pebble jammed in that gap can carve a groove into the disc during a single ride, and packed mud keeps the disc damp long after the bike has been washed.
So every guard deserves an occasional look behind it. When the rear wheel is out for a tyre change, take the guard off as well, clean its inside and check the disc on both faces. Look for grooves that run all the way round, for a sharp burr at the outer edge and for a bright, polished band that shows the guard has been rubbing. After a hard hit, spin the wheel and watch the gap between disc and caliper: if the disc wobbles, the guard may have been pushed against it, or the disc itself may be bent. Measure the thickness at several points of the pad track and compare it with the printed minimum. The rear disc of a 450 EXC-F often wears faster than riders expect, because the rear brake is in use on nearly every descent.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK018 for the KTM 450 EXC-F over a long span, 2003 to 2026, as a direct alternative to the original rear disc. There is one rear disc on the bike, so one DK018 does the job. For the front, Accossato's list offers two options, the DK017 for 2003 to 2023 and the DK259 for 2009 to 2024. Whatever guard you use, make sure it clears the new disc all the way round after fitting.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the DK018, and there is no type approval either. It is sold for enduro competition and riding away from public roads.
