DescriptionThe whole story▼
A two-stroke engine does far less to hold the bike back on a closed throttle than a four-stroke. Riders of the KTM 250 XC notice it at the first steep downhill: the bike keeps rolling, and the rear brake has to make up the difference. The disc behind that work is Accossato's DK018, a fixed rear disc from the off-road range that the supplier describes as steel-made. Accossato lists it for the 250 XC from 2006 to 2026; it spans 220 mm and carries 4 mm of material through the friction surface.
Key Features
- Fixed rear brake disc for the KTM 250 XC, 2006 to 2026
- One-piece steel disc from Accossato's off-road line
- 220 mm outside diameter, 110 mm inner diameter
- 4 mm thick, with the minimum thickness marked on the disc
- Goes on in place of the original rear disc
- One disc per order
- Competition use only: no German ABE documented
Construction and Material Quality
A rear disc on a cross-country bike lives close to the ground, within reach of roost, water and the occasional rock, and the DK018 meets that with simplicity. It is one piece of steel, 4 mm thick, with a 110 mm opening in the middle that centres it on the hub. Accossato, a company that won an Enduro world title in 1985, describes the disc as interchangeable with the factory part. Its lowest usable thickness is written on the disc, so a measurement always has a figure to be compared with.
Two-Stroke, More Brake
A four-stroke engine resists being turned over on a closed throttle, and that resistance slows the rear wheel. A two-stroke like the 250 XC has much less of it, which is part of why it feels so light and free when you roll off. On descents and into corners, the braking has to come from the brakes, and on loose ground much of it comes from the rear, which can be used there with less risk of the front tucking under. Many two-stroke riders drag the rear brake lightly on long downhills to keep their speed in check. It works, but it heats the disc continuously rather than in short bursts. Lift your foot off the pedal whenever the slope allows, let the disc cool on flatter sections, and keep an eye on the rear pads, which do a large share of the work on this kind of bike.
Fitment and Compatibility
Model years 2006 to 2026 of the KTM 250 XC are covered by the DK018, fitted where the original rear disc was. The DK259 front disc is listed across a shorter span, 2006 to 2017, so for a 250 XC newer than that, Accossato names a rear disc but no front one. On the handlebar, the folding B8283 brake lever and C7283 clutch lever are available for the same bike.
Road Approval
The 250 XC is a closed-course competition bike, and the DK018 has no German ABE and no documented type approval. Keep it for racing and for riding on private ground.
Scope of Delivery
