DescriptionThe whole story▼
On a motocross track, the rear brake of a KTM 250 SX-F is used less for stopping than for placing the bike. A brief press on the pedal as the front wheel drops into a rut settles the chassis and helps both tyres follow the groove. Accossato's DK018 is the rear disc for that job, a fixed disc from the brand's off-road range, listed for the 250 SX-F from 2005 to 2026. It measures 220 mm across, has a 110 mm centre opening and a 4 mm friction ring, and it goes where the factory disc was.
Key Features
- Rear brake disc for the KTM 250 SX-F, model years 2005 to 2026
- Fixed off-road disc, steel-made in the supplier's description
- 220 mm outside, 110 mm centre bore, 4 mm thick
- Takes the place of the factory rear disc
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- Priced and supplied as a single disc
- No German ABE on record; for motocross and competition
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato files the DK018 among its off-road discs. It is made in one piece, and the supplier calls it steel-made. At 4 mm it carries more material than either of the front discs Accossato lists for the 250 SX-F, which suits a rear brake that is often held on for longer, because more mass can soak up more heat. According to Accossato, the disc swaps for the original, and it bears the thickness below which it should no longer be used. The supplier's title calls it a front/rear disc; on this bike it belongs at the back.
A Touch of Rear Brake Before the Rut
Deep ruts in the turns are part of most tracks by the afternoon. The usual technique is to finish most of the braking in a straight line, look into the rut early and let the bike roll in. Many riders add a light press on the rear pedal at the moment of entry. It helps keep the 250 SX-F level instead of pitching forward onto the fork, and it encourages the back wheel to follow the same line as the front. Held too long, though, the rear wheel locks and climbs out of the rut, so the pedal is released as soon as the bike is set. Each of those short touches puts a little heat into the rear disc, and a full moto adds up to a great many of them. A pedal that begins to feel soft or long towards the end of a race is worth investigating, starting with the fluid, then the pads, then the thickness of the disc.
Fitment and Compatibility
At the rear of the KTM 250 SX-F, the DK018 is listed from 2005 to 2026 and replaces the disc KTM fitted there. For the front wheel, Accossato offers two options: the DK017 for 2005 to 2022 and the DK259 for 2006 to 2024. Check which of the two matches the disc on your 250 SX-F before ordering the front.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the DK018, and there is no type approval on record either. On a motocross bike like the 250 SX-F, that means tracks and competition only.
Scope of Delivery
A single DK018 rear disc, without pads or bolts.
