DescriptionThe whole story▼
Motocross riders use the rear brake in a place no road rider would think of: in the air. On a KTM 125 SX, a short tap on the pedal during a jump stops the spinning rear wheel, and the bike's nose drops, which levels a bike that has taken off too steeply. The disc behind that tap is Accossato's DK018, a fixed off-road rear disc listed for the 125 SX from 1993 to 2026. It is one piece of steel with a 220 mm outer diameter, a 110 mm centre and a thickness of 4 mm.

- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- Supplied as one disc
- No German ABE; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato places the DK018 in its off-road disc range. It is a fixed disc without a separate centre section, so the part the pads clamp is the same part that is bolted to the hub. Each disc carries its minimum thickness in print, and checking a micrometer reading against that figure takes a minute between race weekends. Accossato explains its disc design with a racing background in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3, and says the low weight of its discs is an advantage when it comes to steering.
A Tap in the Air
The trick works because of the rear wheel's momentum. A wheel spinning fast carries a lot of rotation; stop it suddenly and that rotation is handed on to the whole bike, which pitches forward. A short, sharp tap brings the nose down a little, a longer press brings it down further. Riders on a 125 SX learn to combine it with the throttle, which does the opposite and lifts the front.
For the disc, this is a different load from normal stopping: brief, sudden and repeated on every jump of the lap. Add the usual work into corners and ruts, and a rear disc on a busy track has a hard life. Keep an eye on the pedal. If its travel grows, check the pads; if it pulses under your boot at low speed, look for a bent disc. And keep the disc clean of oil and chain lube, because even a trace of either spoils the pads.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK018 for the KTM 125 SX from 1993 to 2026, and it replaces the rear disc the bike came with. The front is covered by two Accossato discs, the DK017 for 1993 to 2023 and the DK259 for 1993 to 2024. When you fit the DK018, clean the hub contact face, tighten the bolts according to the KTM manual, and check afterwards that the rear wheel of the 125 SX spins freely without the disc binding.
Road Approval
The DK018 comes without German ABE or type approval. On a 125 SX, a pure competition bike, it is used where the bike is used: on the track.
