DescriptionThe whole story▼

Spring is when many Kawasaki Z125 owners find out how their bike spent the winter. A small bike parked in a damp garage or under a cover for months can wake up with a rusty rear disc and pads that have stuck to it. Accossato's DK271 is a fixed rear disc for the Z125, listed from 2019 to 2021: one piece of steel, 220 mm across and 5 mm thick, with three 10.5 mm mounting holes on a 120 mm circle.

Key Features

  • Fixed rear disc for the Kawasaki Z125, 2019 to 2021
  • One-piece steel disc from Accossato's off-road range
  • 220 mm outer diameter, 100 mm inner diameter, 5 mm thick
  • Hole circle 120 mm, three holes of 10.5 mm
  • Interchangeable with the original equipment disc
  • Printed minimum thickness
  • Front: Accossato DK238 floating disc, same years
  • No German ABE documented; track use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato makes the DK271 from steel, in its own words, and as a single part: no rivets, no separate carrier, just one flat disc with its mounting holes. It belongs to the company's range of fixed discs for off-road bikes and serves on the Z125 at the rear. Its measurements are 220 mm outside and 100 mm inside, 5 mm thick, with three 10.5 mm holes on a 120 mm hole circle, and Accossato states that it can take the place of the original equipment disc. Like all of Accossato's discs, it carries its minimum thickness printed on it.

After the Winter Break

Steel discs rust when they stand in damp air, and the rear disc of a Z125 laid up for the winter is no exception. Light surface rust is harmless and disappears after a few careful stops. Trouble starts when the pads have sat against a damp disc for weeks: they can bond to the surface, and when you push the bike the wheel drags or frees itself with a crack. The rust beneath the pad then leaves a patch that the brake passes over with a thump at every turn of the wheel.

Before the first ride of the season, push the bike back and forth and listen for scraping, then apply the rear brake several times and check that the wheel turns freely afterwards. Look at the disc: an even grey surface is fine, deep pitting or a rust band in the braking area is not. If the rear brake still pulses after a gentle ride, the disc probably needs replacing. Next winter, a dry, airy place and an occasional push of the bike, so that the wheel moves, keep the problem away.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the DK271 for the Kawasaki Z125 from 2019 to 2021. The DK238 floating front disc is listed for the same years, and Accossato also makes the EDF025 brake lever and the ESK025 clutch lever for the Z125. When fitting the new rear disc, clean the hub face, tighten the bolts to Kawasaki's specification and fit new pads if the old ones had stuck to the disc.

Road Approval

No German ABE has been documented for this disc, and no type approval exists on record. It is sold for racing and track days.
