DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Kawasaki Versys-X 300 is a small adventure bike, and many owners take the word adventure literally: gravel roads, forest tracks and dusty trails on the way to somewhere remote. That kind of riding is hard on the rear brake. Dust and mud reach the disc and pads, and stones can dent its edge. Accossato's DK271 is a fixed rear disc for the Versys-X 300 from 2017 to 2025, made in one piece of steel, 220 mm across, and it comes from Accossato's family of off-road discs.
Key Features
- Fixed rear disc for the Kawasaki Versys-X 300, 2017 to 2025
- From Accossato's fixed off-road range: steel, one piece
- 220 mm outer diameter, 100 mm inner diameter
- 5 mm thick
- Three 10.5 mm holes on a 120 mm hole circle
- Interchangeable with the Kawasaki original
- Minimum thickness printed on the disc
- No German ABE; for track and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
This disc comes from Accossato's off-road programme, and it shows in its simplicity: a single steel part, with no rivets and no separate carrier, which leaves fewer places for mud to settle. Off-road riding is familiar ground for Accossato, whose record includes an Enduro world title in 1985. The DK271 is 220 mm across, 100 mm at the inner diameter and 5 mm thick. It fastens through three 10.5 mm holes on a 120 mm circle, and Accossato states that it is interchangeable with the original equipment disc. Its minimum thickness is printed on the surface.
Gravel, Mud and the Rear Brake
On loose surfaces the rear brake takes over as the main brake. Anyone who rides a Versys-X 300 off tarmac soon learns to slow down mostly with the back wheel on gravel descents, because a locked front wheel on loose stones usually means a fall, while a sliding rear can be caught. The rear disc therefore does far more work off the road than on it, and it does that work in a cloud of dust.
Grit is the enemy. It embeds itself in the pads and cuts grooves into the disc, and wet mud does the same even faster. After a day on the trails, rinse the brakes with plenty of water rather than aiming a high-pressure jet at the caliper, then ride a few gentle stops to clean the surfaces. Inspect the disc for grooves and for dents or bends at the edge where a stone struck it. A disc bent by a rock makes the pedal pulse and should be replaced. On a Versys-X 300 that sees regular gravel, check the thickness against the printed minimum more often than you would on a bike that never leaves the tarmac.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK271 for the Kawasaki Versys-X 300 from 2017 to 2025. The Adventure and Urban packages of the Versys-X 300 are built on the same bike. Accossato's EDF025 brake lever and ESK025 clutch lever are made for it too. Tighten the disc bolts to Kawasaki's specification, and check the rear wheel bearings, which suffer from off-road use and pressure washers.
Road Approval
No German ABE and no type approval are on record for this disc; we sell it for closed-course and competition use.
Scope of Delivery
