DescriptionThe whole story▼
At walking pace, a motorcycle is balanced as much with the rear brake as with throttle and clutch. On a Kawasaki Ninja 125, the disc worked by the rider's right foot decides how neatly a U-turn, a slow line through a car park or a manoeuvre in the licence test comes off. Accossato's DK271 replaces the rear disc of the Ninja 125 built from 2019 to 2026. It is a fixed disc in one piece, steel according to Accossato, 220 mm across and 5 mm thick, with its minimum thickness printed on it.

- Three 10.5 mm mounting holes on a 120 mm hole circle

Construction and Material Quality
Nothing on this disc can rattle, because it has no separate parts. The DK271 is a single flat piece, carrier and friction surface together, and Accossato calls it steel-made. It comes from the company's family of fixed discs for off-road machines. Fixed discs are the usual choice at the rear of a road bike, where the brake handles far less heat than at the front. Accossato gives the outer diameter as 220 mm and the inner as 100 mm, with three 10.5 mm mounting holes arranged on a 120 mm circle, and states that the disc can be exchanged for the original equipment part.
Slow Riding and the Back Brake
Instructors teach the same method for every slow manoeuvre: a steady trickle of throttle, the clutch slipping at its biting point and speed controlled with light pressure on the rear brake. The drag from the back steadies the bike and keeps the chassis settled, while the front brake is left alone, since a grab at full lock is the quickest way to drop a Ninja 125 in a car park. U-turns between two lines, figures of eight and walking-pace queues all work the same way. For that kind of control the rear brake has to respond predictably from the first touch of the pedal, and a disc that is warped or badly scored can make it snatch.
Because the rear brake is used gently, its wear often goes unnoticed. Look at the disc from the side of the bike every few weeks: a bright, even surface is fine, while a ridge at the outer rim or grooves you can feel mean it is time to measure. Accossato's advice is to fit new discs every thirty to forty thousand kilometres, sooner if a disc has worn past its printed minimum, is deeply scored or shows a crack.
Fitment and Compatibility
The DK271 appears on Accossato's list for the Kawasaki Ninja 125 from 2019 to 2026. For the front wheel, the DK238 floating disc covers the bikes of 2019 and 2020, and Accossato's lever range for the Ninja 125 includes the EDF025 for the brake and the ESK025 for the clutch. Compare the new disc with the old one before fitting, and tighten the bolts as Kawasaki specifies.
Road Approval
No German ABE and no type approval are on file for the DK271, which is why we supply it for racing and track days.
