DescriptionThe whole story▼
Sand tracks treat a rear brake roughly. The Husqvarna FX 450 often races over deep sand in cross-country events, and every turn of the rear wheel throws grains at the pads and the disc. Accossato's DK018 replaces the rear disc of the FX 450 of 2017 to 2021. It belongs to the fixed off-road range, is a single steel part in the supplier's description, measures 220 mm outside and 110 mm at the centre, and is 4 mm thick.
Key Features
- Rear brake disc for the Husqvarna FX 450, 2017 to 2021
- Fixed one-piece off-road disc; steel-made in the supplier's description
- 220 mm diameter, 110 mm bore, 4 mm thickness
- Interchangeable with the original equipment disc (Accossato)
- Minimum thickness printed on the disc
- Accossato's replacement guide: thirty to forty thousand kilometres or earlier if worn
- No German ABE; for competition use
Construction and Material Quality
The DK018 is a plain one-piece disc without carrier, in what the supplier describes as steel. Its design, Accossato says, reflects knowledge gathered in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3, including detailed work on tolerances, and less weight at the wheel is another point the company makes in favour of its discs. You can read the minimum working thickness directly on the disc.
Deep Sand and the Rear Brake
In deep sand the FX 450 slows down on its own as soon as the throttle closes, so the rear brake is used less there than on hard ground. The wear happens anyway. Sand sticks to a wet disc and gets between the pads, and each touch of the pedal drags it across the steel. After a sandy race the rear disc can look matt and finely scored, and the pads can lose material much faster than usual. Rinse the rear wheel and caliper with plenty of water rather than wiping them dry, which only rubs the grains across the surface. Then check the pad thickness, and the disc against its printed minimum. If you race on sand regularly, keep a log of when disc and pads were changed; it shows how quickly your tracks eat them and helps you replace the disc before a race rather than during one.
Fitment and Compatibility
On Accossato's list the FX 450 appears under the DK018 for 2017 to 2021, one model year longer than under the DK017 front disc, which stops at 2020. It takes the place of the stock rear disc. While the rear wheel of the FX 450 is out, check the wheel bearings and the sprocket bolts too, because sand wears them as well.
Road Approval
No German ABE and no type approval have been documented for the DK018, which suits a bike built for closed-course racing.
Scope of Delivery
