DescriptionThe whole story▼
An enduro day on a GasGas EC 250 usually ends in the same place: at the wash bay, with a pressure washer and a bike caked in mud. How that cleaning is done influences the rear brake more than most riders think. For the EC 250 of 2021 and 2022, Accossato offers the DK018, a fixed off-road rear disc made from a single piece of steel. It measures 220 mm across, is 4 mm thick and, according to its maker, swaps directly for the disc GasGas fitted.
Key Features
- Fixed off-road rear disc for the GasGas EC 250, 2021 and 2022
- Single piece of steel according to the supplier, no carrier or rivets
- Outer diameter 220 mm, inner diameter 110 mm, thickness 4 mm
- Interchangeable with the original disc, per Accossato
- Minimum thickness printed on the disc
- Accossato levers for this bike: B8206 brake, C7283 and C7284 clutch
- No German ABE documented; for off-road use and competition
Construction and Material Quality
A fixed disc like the DK018 is one solid piece of steel. There is no carrier, no rivet and no joint for mud to pack into, which is why fixed discs are the norm on enduro and motocross machines. The disc has an outer diameter of 220 mm, a 110 mm centre opening and a 4 mm friction surface. Accossato says it learned about brake discs in Superbike and in the Moto2 and Moto3 world championship classes, and that it selects its raw materials carefully. As on all of its discs, the minimum working thickness is printed on the DK018 itself.
After the Pressure Washer
A pressure washer is the quickest way to get an enduro bike clean, and also a quick way to create brake problems. A strong jet aimed at the rear caliper drives water and fine grit past the seals and into the slider pins. Water left on the disc overnight leaves a film of rust by morning, and residue from strong degreasers can find its way onto the pads.
A few rules help. Keep the nozzle well back from the caliper, the wheel bearings and the rear disc, and use a softer spray around them. Rinse off any degreaser completely before it dries. After washing, ride the bike gently for a minute and use the rear brake several times, so that heat dries the disc and the pads wipe it clean. Every few weeks, or after particularly muddy rides, take the rear pads out and look at them and at the disc: grit embedded in a pad cuts grooves into the disc. If the grooves are deep, or the disc is close to the minimum printed on it, change disc and pads together. On a GasGas EC 250 ridden every weekend, that routine is worth more than any cleaning product.
Fitment and Compatibility
Besides the DK018, Accossato's list for the GasGas EC 250 of 2021 and 2022 includes the B8206 brake lever and the C7283 and C7284 clutch levers. Before fitting, compare the new disc with the old one for diameter, centre opening and hole positions, and clean the hub face so the disc sits flat. Tighten the bolts to the torque given in the GasGas manual for the EC 250.
Road Approval
This disc has no documented German ABE and no type approval. It is sold for competition and for riding on closed off-road ground.
