DescriptionThe whole story▼
Before the cross-plane generation arrived, the earlier R1 had already built a loyal following among owners who kept their bikes long after fashions moved on, and plenty of those older R1s are still wheeled in and out of home garages built decades before anyone imagined a superbike this wide. A garage shared with a car, a workbench and stacked boxes leaves little margin for error when manoeuvring the bike past obstacles that were never designed with it in mind. Accossato lists its TP018 crash pads for the R1, covering 2004 to 2016.
Key Features
- Crash pads for the Yamaha R1, 2004 to 2016
- Accossato TP018, two pads per pack
- CNC-machined aluminium body
- Anodised insert in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
- Matching screw cover available as an option
- PF046 front, PP019 rear axle sliders and TP025 crash pads also listed for this bike
- Ask us before ordering whether drilling is needed
- No German ABE on file; for track and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Each TP018 pad is cut from a single piece of aluminium and carries an anodised insert, chosen from six available colours, with a matching screw cover offered to those who want one. The pack holds two pads. On an older R1 that still gets wheeled through a cramped home garage, the pads sit near the fairing and are there to meet an obstacle or the ground first if the bike tips, sparing the panels and the frame nearby some of the resulting mark. Treat a pad that has clearly taken a knock as due for replacement.
A Garage Built Before This Bike Existed
Older houses with single garages were rarely designed with a wide superbike in mind, and years of accumulated boxes, tools and a second vehicle can shrink the usable space to little more than the width of the R1 itself. Walking the bike past a workbench or around a parked car in dim garage lighting invites exactly the kind of low-speed clip that tips a bike rather than crashing it, often against a shelf edge or a door frame rather than anything dramatic. Clearing a proper path before moving the bike, and taking the manoeuvre slowly rather than rushing to get it done, both reduce the risk. If the R1 does catch something in a tight garage, the crash pads take that first contact; check them before continuing to move the bike.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's application list gives the TP018 for the R1 from 2004 to 2016, and our listing follows those years. No other Accossato protection part shares exactly this code's range, though the PF046 front and PP019 rear axle sliders, along with the newer TP025 crash pads, are also listed for later R1 model years. Accossato notes that drilling the fairing is required on some motorcycles for these pads, so please ask us before ordering whether your R1 needs it.
Road Approval
We have no ABE or test certificate on file for the TP018, so it is supplied for racing and competition use.
