DescriptionThe whole story▼
The FZ8 took the Fazer formula down a notch in displacement without losing much of the character, becoming a favourite for riders upgrading from a smaller machine into something with real midrange punch. New owners spend their first weeks getting used to how much heavier an FZ8 feels compared with a learner bike, and that unfamiliar weight shows up most at walking pace, backing out of a driveway or turning the bike around in a narrow side street. Accossato lists the TP012 crash pads for the FZ8 of 2010 to 2016.
Key Features
- Crash pads for the Yamaha FZ8, 2010 to 2016
- Accossato TP012, two pads per pack
- CNC-machined aluminium body
- Anodised insert in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
- Matching screw cover available as an option
- Same pads also listed for the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 and the Yamaha FZ1 Fazer
- Ask us before ordering whether drilling is needed on your bike
- No German ABE on file; for track and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato machines the TP012 from aluminium and fits an anodised insert in a choice of six colours, with a matching screw cover offered as an extra. Two pads make up the pack. On an FZ8 still being learned, the pads sit close to the frame and are there to take the first contact if the bike tips over at low speed, which can reduce the harm to the frame rails nearby. A pad that has clearly absorbed a knock should be replaced rather than kept in place.
Learning the Weight of a Bigger Bike
Moving up from a small-capacity machine to the FZ8 changes more than the amount of power on offer; the bike is noticeably heavier to manhandle at a standstill, and that extra mass is easiest to misjudge in exactly the situations a new owner meets most often: reversing out of a garage, paddling the bike around in a tight u-turn, or walking it backwards up a sloped driveway. A foot placed slightly wrong, or a moment's hesitation about which way the bike is leaning, is often enough to let it tip past the point of recovery. These are almost always slow, low-speed falls rather than anything dramatic, and that is precisely the situation the crash pads are built for. After any such tip-over, check the pads along with the mirror and lever before riding on, and take the extra weight at walking pace until it becomes familiar.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the FZ8, our shop keeps to the 2010-to-2016 span that Accossato's own application list gives. Being the same design as used elsewhere, the TP012 also shows up in our listings for the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 and the Yamaha FZ1 Fazer. Since Accossato's catalogue flags drilling for some unspecified motorcycles, get in touch before ordering to confirm whether it applies to your FZ8, which has no other Accossato protection part listed against it.
Road Approval
We have no ABE or test certificate on file for the TP012, so it is supplied for racing and competition use.
