DescriptionThe whole story▼
The first lap of the morning is where many track days go wrong. Tyres that spent the night in a cold van, a surface still damp with dew and a rider eager to get going make a combination that catches out even experienced riders on an Aprilia RSV4. The resulting slide is often slow and undramatic, yet the bike still lands on its side. For the RSV4 of 2009 to 2015, Accossato lists the TP058 crash pads, machined from aluminium and fitted with a colour-anodised insert.
Key Features
- Crash pads for the Aprilia RSV4, 2009 to 2015
- CNC-machined aluminium
- Insert anodised in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
- Screw cover in the insert colour on request
- Two pads per pack
- Fairing drilling needed on some bikes: check with us first
- No German ABE on record; for the track
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato machines the TP058 from aluminium using CNC equipment and gives it an insert anodised in colour. Customers choose between blue, green, black, red, silver and gold, and can add a screw cover in the same colour or leave it off. There are two pads in the pack. On a superbike such as the RSV4, their role is to reach the tarmac or the gravel before the fairing and the frame when the bike falls, and so to reduce the damage there. Pads that have ground down or cracked should be exchanged.
Cold Tyres on the Out-Lap
Tyre warmers help, but not every rider uses them, and even warm tyres lose heat quickly on a slow out-lap behind other bikes. Treat the first two laps as a warm-up: brake a little earlier, lean less, and open the throttle smoothly out of the corners. The track needs time as well. In the morning shade some corners stay damp or cold long after others have dried, and the kerbs can be slippery. Watch the riders ahead and the marshals' flags, which warn of oil or debris. If the RSV4 does go down, let it go and get clear of the racing line. Back in the pit garage, check the pads, the fairing mounts, the levers and the footrests, and turn the bars from lock to lock to make sure nothing rubs. Many organisers will not let a bike back out with loose parts, and that is a sensible rule.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's application list includes the TP058 for the RSV4 1000 from 2009 to 2015, and in our shop the same pads are also listed for the Tuono V4 1100. Accossato notes that the fairing has to be drilled on some motorcycles for its crash pads, and the list does not say where this applies, so please ask us before ordering whether your RSV4 needs it. Accossato also makes a second set of crash pads for the RSV4, the TP075, as well as the PP001 rear axle sliders.
Road Approval
For the TP058 there is no German ABE, and no test document is available to us. It is offered for circuit riding and competition.
