DescriptionThe whole story▼
Older middleweights often end their road careers and start a second one behind a paddock fence. Lights come off, the number plate goes in a drawer, and a Ducati Monster 821 Dark that once commuted becomes a bike that only ever sees a circuit. Equipment choices change with it. Accossato presses the AGPA177 front pad in its EV2 racing material, article AGPA177EV2, which the company files among its racing compounds, and the entry for this version of the model covers 2015 and 2016.
Key Features
- Front pads for the Ducati Monster 821 Dark, model years 2015 and 2016
- AGPA177EV2: the AGPA177 shape in the EV2 racing material
- Accossato groups this compound with its racing grades
- Intended for machines that no longer see public roads
- Two calipers to fill, so a single box does not finish the wheel
- Two pads in a box, one caliper per box
- ST, EV1 and ZXC exist on the identical shape
- No German ABE with this article; competition part
Construction and Material Quality
The manufacturer's line on this grade is short and unambiguous: racing. Taken literally, that describes a material chosen for sessions in which cooling time is scarce and gentle use is not on offer, which is precisely the life of a dedicated circuit machine. The carrier plate is the standard AGPA177, unchanged from every other version, so a bike converted for track use does not need anything special ordered, machined or shimmed to accept it. Only the label at the end of the article number is different.
Retired From the Road, Kept for the Circuit
A converted bike develops its own maintenance rhythm. Nothing has to survive a winter of salt any more, but everything now gets used hard for a few hours and then parked for a month. The Monster 821 Dark in this condition typically covers very little distance and does an enormous amount of work, so parts that would last years on the road reach the end of their life in a season without ever looking particularly abused.
That rhythm needs a different inspection habit. Go over the front calipers at the end of a day rather than at the start of the next one, while the memory of the session is fresh, and write down what is left. Clean the pistons before pushing them back so nothing is dragged into the seals over the winter. Check the discs for deep scoring, look at the fluid before the first event of the year, and give a fresh set a few progressive applications before the pace picks up.
Fitment and Compatibility
For this version Accossato records the front fitment as 2015 and 2016, a two-season window rather than the longer one the standard model carries. Each front caliper takes its own box, so two are needed for the axle. The AGPA42 is listed at the rear over the same two years, and the disc programme offers the DKS053 here. A pad shape used across many machines is only safe to order by number, whatever the model name on the tank suggests.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE in our documentation for the AGPA177EV2 and no accompanying test report, so it is supplied strictly as racing equipment.
Scope of Delivery
One box of two AGPA177 pads in the EV2 racing material, which fills one front caliper on the Monster 821 Dark.
