DescriptionThe whole story▼
The EV2 racing compound is the material Accossato nominates for competition, and it is catalogued for the front of the BMW R 1200 RT of 2014 to 2018 in the AGPA177 pad. That combination raises an eyebrow at first, since a full-dress tourer is hardly a race bike. It makes sense once you meet the owners: people who ride an RT at speed all season, who use it on circuits at open days, and who would rather buy a friction material designed for repeated hard work than one designed for a quiet commute.
Key Features
- Front pads for the BMW R 1200 RT, 2014 to 2018, article number AGPA177EV2
- The AGPA177 plate carrying the EV2 racing compound
- Accossato's own description: a top racing material
- Two pads in the box, which is one caliper's set
- The front wheel takes two calipers, so a full change means two boxes
- ST, EV1 and ZXC numbers exist for riders wanting a different character
- AGPA92 serves the rear wheel across the same model years
- No German ABE documented; competition and track use
Construction and Material Quality
Nothing about the metalwork changes between the materials in this family. What the article number buys is the friction layer, and here it is the compound Accossato ranks highest for racing. Its virtue, in the company's telling, is that stopping power stays available application after application; it credits that to heat being kept in check rather than allowed to accumulate in the pad. On a heavy machine that quality is worth having, because mass is what turns into heat every time the lever is pulled. The two pads in the box are the set for one caliper, and the front of an RT is fitted with a caliper on each side.
When a Tourer Visits the Circuit
An R 1200 RT on a circuit is an unusual sight and a perfectly reasonable one. Open track days accept all kinds of machines, and a rider who knows a big tourer well will use it sensibly: braking early, carrying speed rather than chasing it, and staying out of the way of the sports bikes. The brake still works harder than it does anywhere on the public road. There is no traffic to slow the rhythm, the corners come round on a schedule, and the fairing that makes the bike so comfortable in the rain also keeps some of the cooling air away from the front wheel. Ride shorter sessions than the youngsters do, let the bike stand with the front wheel off the ground if you have a stand, and take the wheel out at the end of the day to see what the pads and discs look like.
Fitment and Compatibility
The AGPA177 is Accossato's front pad for the R 1200 RT of 2014 to 2018, offered here in its racing material. Renew the axle as a unit, one box for each of the two calipers, and take the chance to look at disc thickness while the wheel is out. Riders who want the same shape in something less single-minded will find the ST material under its own number, and the rear of the bike is covered by the AGPA92 for the same years. The DK007 is the disc in Accossato's list for the RT. After assembly, pump the lever until it goes firm before the machine is moved.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE for the AGPA177EV2 in our records and no approval mark to quote, so nothing documents it for public roads. It is a part for racing and for circuit riding.
Scope of Delivery
A box with two AGPA177 pads in the EV2 racing compound, enough for one front caliper.
