DescriptionThe whole story▼
A racing material answers a narrow question: can the front brake do exactly the same thing at the end of a session as it did at the start? Accossato's EV2 racing compound puts the AGPA177 pad into that world, and the shape fits the front wheel of the BMW R 1200 RS of 2014 to 2018. The half-faired boxer is no race bike, but it is taken to circuits often enough, and an owner who has moved past a first track day may want a friction material drawn for that use rather than for the ride home afterwards.
Key Features
- Front pads for the BMW R 1200 RS, 2014 to 2018, in the EV2 racing compound
- Article number AGPA177EV2, built on the AGPA177 plate
- Accossato places this material at the top of its racing pad range
- One box equals one caliper; this model runs two calipers at the front
- Siblings in the ST, EV1 and ZXC materials cover other kinds of riding
- AGPA92 is the rear pad across the same model years
- Bed a new set in before the first hard session
- No documents on approval held here; a competition part
Construction and Material Quality
Within the AGPA177 family the plate is the constant and the friction layer is the variable. This number carries what Accossato calls a top racing compound, the material the firm puts forward when a brake is worked at competition pace rather than at road pace. Materials of that kind are drawn around one demand above all others, namely that the fiftieth application of a session should feel like the fifth. Accossato points to limited heat build-up in its pads as the reason fading stays away. The box contains two pads, the number a single caliper takes, so the front of an R 1200 RS needs a pair of boxes.
Repeating the Same Stop
On a circuit the front brake works to a timetable. The same corner arrives every lap and returns a minute or two later, always from a similar speed, always asking for a similar pressure, with no traffic lights or villages in between to let anything cool. That rhythm is what separates track use from even very quick road riding, where hard applications come in bursts and the gaps do the cooling. When a material cannot keep up, the rider feels it as movement in the lever: it travels further towards the grip each lap and the point at which the pads take hold drifts later. The answer lies partly in the choice of material and partly in the routine. Come in a lap before you have had enough, ride the in-lap without dragging the brake, and inspect the pads with the bike on a stand while everything is still where you can see it.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato catalogues the AGPA177 for the front of the R 1200 RS from 2014 to 2018. Because a caliper sits at each front disc, a full change is two boxes, and both sides should be renewed in one session so that the wheel is stopped evenly. If the same bike also does road duty, the ST and EV1 numbers cover that ground; at the rear the AGPA92 fits the same model years. The DK006 and DK007 appear in Accossato's disc list for the RS. Measure what is left of the discs whenever the pads are out, and clean each piston before it is pushed back into the caliper.
Road Approval
This is a competition article. Neither a German ABE nor a test report for the AGPA177EV2 has reached us, so there is nothing that would place it in road traffic, and we sell it for racing and track riding.
Scope of Delivery
