DescriptionThe whole story▼
Ferry ramps, mountain car parks and campsite entrances all present the same problem to a loaded BMW R 1200 RT: a slope, a queue and the need to hold a great deal of motorcycle still with one boot while the other stays on the peg. The rear brake does that job. Accossato's AGPA92 pad covers the rear wheel of the RT from 2014 to 2018, and this number carries the EV1 street/track compound, the material the company draws for firm road riding and for amateur track sessions.
Key Features
- AGPA92EV1: rear pads for the BMW R 1200 RT, 2014 to 2018
- EV1 street/track compound, according to Accossato for road and amateur track use
- Built on the same AGPA92 plate as the other four materials
- One box, two pads, one rear caliper
- The front wheel of this model takes the AGPA177
- The OR and ST numbers are milder; EV2 and ZXC are the racing materials
- Accossato lists the DK007 disc for the RT
- No German ABE documented; for competition and track use
Construction and Material Quality
The company puts this material where a firm rear pedal is wanted without going all the way to a competition compound. Excellent grip on the road and in amateur track riding is how Accossato sums it up, and the range-wide characteristics apply here as well: pads that wear slowly and keep their stopping power available because they do not let heat pile up. At the rear of a tourer the practical result is a pedal that responds early and repeatably, which is what makes it possible to hold a set pressure rather than to apply the brake in stages. Two pads per box, one caliper's worth.
Holding a Loaded Bike on a Slope
Stopping on a hill with a fully loaded R 1200 RT is a small exercise in planning. Put the bike where you can get it out again, which usually means nose-up on a slope rather than nose-down, and think about the gravel or oil that collects at the edges of a car park. Waiting in a queue on a gradient, hold the machine on the rear brake with your right boot down rather than shuffling forward on the clutch; the pedal is easier to hold steady than a lever and it leaves the throttle hand free. Moving off, let the clutch take up against the brake before you release it, and the bike will roll away instead of falling back. And when you park on a slope at the end of the day, leave it in gear, because a heavy tourer that starts to roll is not something anybody can hold.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato catalogues the AGPA92 at the rear of the R 1200 RT for model years 2014 to 2018. There is one caliper back there, so one box does the whole job, and the pads are fitted as a pair. The same plate is available in four other materials should a different character suit you better, and the AGPA177 serves the front wheel across the same years. While the pads are out, wipe the piston clean and see that it moves without effort before it is pressed back. Give a new set some gentle stops before asking it to hold the bike on a steep ramp.
Road Approval
Nothing on file documents the AGPA92EV1 for the public road: no German ABE, no certificate, no mark. The pads are therefore supplied for track and competition riding.
Scope of Delivery
A single box holding two AGPA92 pads in the EV1 street/track compound, the set for the rear caliper.
