DescriptionThe whole story▼
A rear pad on a fast ride leads a strange life. For an hour at a time it does almost nothing while the rider concentrates on the front brake and the throttle, and then a tight, downhill set of bends arrives and it is worked steadily for ten minutes. Accossato's EV1 street/track compound is aimed at riders who ride that way, on the road and occasionally on a circuit, and it is listed in the AGPA92 shape for the rear wheel of the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure built from 2014 to 2018.
Key Features
- Rear pads for the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, 2014 to 2018, in the EV1 street/track compound
- Article number AGPA92EV1, the sporting filling of this plate
- Accossato names excellent grip for road riding and amateur track use
- One box of two pads serves the single rear caliper
- OR, ST, EV2 and ZXC complete the material choice for this shape
- Front pads for the same bike: AGPA177, likewise available in this compound
- The DK006 disc is listed for this GS Adventure
- No German ABE documented; circuit and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato's description of this material mentions the road first and the circuit second, and on a rear brake that order is the right one. The rear of a big adventure machine is not asked for enormous force even at speed; it is asked for precision and for the ability to keep giving the same response when it has been used repeatedly over a short period. Low fade is the property the company puts behind that, which it attributes to a pad that does not heat without limit. The mechanical side is common to the family, the AGPA92 outline and a box containing two pads, which is the whole rear caliper on this bike.
Cold for an Hour, Busy for Ten Minutes
The rear brake of a quickly ridden GS Adventure works in bursts, and that pattern is worth thinking about. On open roads it barely touches the disc, so pad and disc sit at the ambient temperature of the day. Then comes a descent where the pedal is used into every corner to settle the bike and to keep the speed in hand between them, and within a few minutes the rear brake is doing sustained work from cold. A material that needs coaxing before it responds is awkward there, because the first two corners are the ones where you most want a predictable answer. Riders who know a road well learn to give the pedal a couple of light applications before the descent begins, which brings some warmth into the system and tells them what they are dealing with. The same habit is useful on a circuit, on the out lap, and it costs nothing but a moment's attention.
Fitment and Compatibility
The catalogue lists this pad for one machine, the R 1200 GS Adventure of 2014 to 2018, at the rear. One box is a complete change. Owners who use the bike for errands or for loaded touring will be better served by the OR or ST materials in the same plate, while EV2 and ZXC are the competition fillings. At the front the AGPA177 covers the same model years and is also made in this material, which is worth knowing if both ends are due at once. The DK006 is Accossato's disc for this GS Adventure.
Road Approval
For the AGPA92EV1 we have received no approval paperwork of any kind, a German ABE included. It is sold for circuits and competition.
