DescriptionThe whole story▼
Sooner or later the owner of a Ducati Monster 1200 books a track day, and the 25° Anniversario of 2019 makes a reasonable candidate for one. Accossato gives that edition a front pad of its own, the AGPA106, and offers it here in the EV1 street/track material as article AGPA106EV1. The firm describes the compound as providing strong grip for road riding and for amateur circuit work alike, which is the double duty a rider wants when the same machine goes to a circuit on Saturday and to a car park on Monday morning.
Key Features
- Front brake pads for the Ducati Monster 1200 25° Anniversario, model year 2019
- AGPA106EV1: the AGPA106 plate in the EV1 street/track material
- Accossato positions the compound for road use and amateur track use alike
- Written for the rider whose first circuit day is already in the diary
- One box per caliper, and the front wheel of this bike has two
- Two pads to the box
- The AGPA106 plate also comes in ST, EV2 and ZXC
- No German ABE on record; sold for competition use
Construction and Material Quality
A compound asked to do two jobs has to give ground somewhere, and Accossato is open about where this one sits: street riding first, amateur circuit use second, with one friction layer covering both. In practice that describes a pad which does not demand a session of abuse before it answers, and which is still recognisable at the end of twenty minutes of lapping. The AGPA106 plate underneath is common to all four articles in the group, so a rider who tries one material and then moves to another is changing only what meets the disc.
The First Session of an Open Pitlane Day
Nothing on the road quite prepares a rider for the third lap of an open pitlane session. The heavy braking areas come round every half minute, the discs never fully cool, and the lever begins to tell a story that the same machine never tells on a Sunday morning. On a Monster 1200 there is the extra business of an upright riding position: with no fairing to hide behind, the air does a good deal of the slowing at the end of a straight, and riders regularly find they have braked earlier than they meant to because the wind got there first.
Before the visor goes down there are a few sensible checks. Judge the pads by how much material is left rather than by how long they have been in. Make sure the fluid is fresh, because one afternoon at a circuit asks more of it than a summer of commuting. Bed a new set in on the road or on an out lap with a handful of firm applications rather than one dramatic one, and let the front end cool afterwards instead of parking with the lever held against the bar.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list puts the AGPA106 at the front of the Monster 1200 25° Anniversario for 2019 and nowhere else within the base model's run. The standard Monster 1200 of 2014 to 2021 takes the AGPA177 instead, so the article number depends on which of the two machines you are standing next to. Behind, the AGPA42 covers 2014 to 2021. The disc catalogue offers the DK053 and the DKS053 for this bike. Both front calipers want fresh material at the same time, which means two boxes.
Road Approval
No German ABE exists for the AGPA106EV1 as far as our paperwork goes, and no test certificate either. We therefore sell the pads for circuit and competition use.
Scope of Delivery
One box, two AGPA106 pads in the EV1 material, enough for one of the two front calipers on the Monster 1200.
