DescriptionThe whole story▼
There is usually one road. Half an hour from home, a sequence of bends that everyone in the local club knows by heart, ridden early on a Sunday before the traffic wakes up. That is where a Shiver 900 is at its happiest, and where the front brake is asked for real work corner after corner without ever seeing a circuit. Accossato's EV1 street/track compound is aimed at exactly that rider, and this article puts it on the AGPA101 carrier for the Aprilia Shiver 900 of 2018 to 2020.
Key Features
- Front brake pads for the Aprilia Shiver 900, 2018 to 2020
- EV1 street/track compound, sold on its own
- Accossato rates its grip for fast road riding and for amateur track days
- Two pads per box; the front axle of the Shiver 900 takes two boxes
- Fits the original front calipers without alteration
- The AGPP91 serves the rear of the same bike
- Accossato lists the DKS032 disc for this model
- No German ABE or test mark documented; for racing and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
EV1 street/track stands one step above Accossato's road mixes. The company rates it for strong grip on the street and for amateur use on a circuit, which is a fair description of what a rider does with a naked bike on a good road: firm, repeated braking into bends taken at a pace the rider has chosen rather than one the traffic dictates. Accossato says its pads are designed to stop hard without wearing quickly, and a compound that takes a spirited Sunday without needing attention on Monday is the practical version of that idea.
A Road You Know by Heart
Riding a familiar road quickly is a question of rhythm rather than bravery. The braking point for each bend is a fence post or a change in the tarmac, the same one every time, and the reward for getting it right is a bike that is settled before the turn instead of still moving about underneath you. All of it depends on the brake feeling the same at the twelfth bend as it did at the first.
Two habits protect that feeling. The first is to do the slowing upright and finish it before the lean, which leaves the tyre free to do one job at a time. The second is to look at the brake before the ride rather than during it: fluid level in the reservoir, material still to spare on the pads, no weeping at the hose ends. A Shiver 900 that has stood for a fortnight can feel wooden for the first few stops, so use the run out of town to bring the brake back to life.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's data for the AGPA101 covers the Shiver 900 built from 2018 to 2020 and nothing else in this family. Both front calipers use the same pad, so two boxes finish the job, and the pair inside a caliper is always renewed together. The rear pad in the range is the AGPP91; the DKS032 is the disc Accossato offers for the Shiver 900 if that part has also reached its limit.
Road Approval
We hold no ABE and no test mark for this article. It is therefore sold for track days, racing and competition rather than for use in traffic.
