DescriptionThe whole story▼
For many young motocross riders, the Yamaha YZ250F is the first full-size bike after years on an 85cc two-stroke. The step up brings more weight, more power and a different kind of clutch work, and it brings a season of falls while everything is learned again. Accossato's C7266 is a folding clutch lever for the YZ250F from 2009 to 2022. It is machined from Ergal 7075 and has a long blade for four fingers, joined to its base by a joint that allows it to fold forward in a crash.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the Yamaha YZ250F, 2009 to 2022
- Installed at the original clutch mount
- Long blade with space for four fingers
- Anti-break joint gives the blade room to fold forward
- CNC-machined from Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Black or blue blade on a dark base
- No German ABE documented; for motocross use
Construction and Material Quality
The C7266 is offered in two colours, black or blue, and in both cases the blade sits on a dark base. Both parts come from solid Ergal 7075, a high-strength aluminium alloy, cut to shape on CNC machines in Italy. Accossato's aim with that choice is a lever that is strong and reliable while remaining light. The joint where base and blade meet is what allows the blade to fold. On the clutch side the blade is longer than the brake lever's, with space for four fingers, which suits a hand still learning to control the clutch precisely.
Stepping Up from an 85
The move from an 85 to a 250 four-stroke is one of the biggest steps in a young rider's progress. A small two-stroke is ridden with the revs high and the clutch used to keep it on the boil; the YZ250F has a broader spread of power and more engine braking, and it rewards smoother clutch work. Starts, tight turns and jump faces all feel different. Riders often take a few months to stop over-revving and slipping the clutch as though they were still on the smaller bike, and coaches spend a lot of time on clutch control at low speed during that period.
There will be falls. Most happen at low speed, in ruts and turns, while the rider is still getting used to the extra size and power, and the clutch lever is often the part that pays. Parents who have replaced lever after lever in a season know the pattern. The C7266's joint gives the blade the chance to swing forward instead of breaking, so a fair number of those falls may end with the lever intact. That is not a guarantee, and a hard crash can still damage it, but it lets more of the budget go on tyres and training.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the C7266 for the Yamaha YZ250F from 2009 to 2022 and fits it at the original clutch mount. The B8265 folding brake lever covers a slightly longer span of the same bike, 2007 to 2022, and is also available in green. For a matching pair, choose black or blue on both sides.
Road Approval
The C7266 has no documented German ABE. Like the YZ250F, it is intended for motocross tracks and off-road competition.
