DescriptionThe whole story▼
Water crossings are an everyday part of trail riding, and one of the few places where a small mistake leaves you standing knee-deep in a river. On a KTM 250 XCF-W the key is steady drive: keep the four-stroke running, keep moving and never let the revs die halfway across. The clutch is how you manage that. Accossato offers the C7283 for the 250 XCF-W of 2006 to 2016, a long clutch blade for four fingers that can fold at its hinge if the bike ends up on its side in the stream.

Construction and Material Quality
Accossato, which won an enduro world title in 1985, still machines its off-road levers in Italy. The C7283 is cut from solid Ergal 7075, an aluminium alloy chosen for high strength, and the company's stated aims are strength, low weight and reliability. The finished lever has a dark lower section that stays at the clutch pivot and a coloured blade that hangs from it on a hinge. Being the clutch-side lever, it is long enough for four fingers to work together.
Through the Ford
Before riding into a river, stop and look. Where is the water shallowest, where is the bottom gravel rather than slick, rounded stones, and where can you climb out on the far bank? Then go in a low gear at a steady pace, standing, with the clutch slipped just enough to keep the engine at healthy revs. A four-stroke that lugs in deep water can stall, and a dead engine in a river is a problem you want to avoid: restarting may be difficult, and water can find its way where it should not.
The fall, when it comes, is usually slow. A tyre slides off a submerged boulder, a boot slips as you dab, and the 250 XCF-W topples over. If it goes to the left, the clutch lever strikes the riverbed, which is made of exactly the kind of hard, uneven stones that break levers. The joint on the C7283 allows the blade to fold forward at that moment, improving the chance that you can get the bike up, pull the clutch and ride out of the water. Stand the KTM 250 XCF-W up quickly, and if it has swallowed water, deal with that before you try to restart.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the C7283 for the KTM 250 XCF-W across 2006 to 2016, divided into the 2006–2013 and 2014–2016 bikes; it fits the original clutch mount on both. The folding B8283 brake lever is available for 2014 to 2016 only, so the earlier bikes can be fitted on the clutch side alone. Red is one of four clutch-lever colours but is not offered for the brake lever.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE documented for the C7283. Its purpose is off-road riding and competition, not road traffic.
