DescriptionThe whole story▼
A 125 two-stroke rewards riders who keep it spinning, and on open, flowing trails the KTM 125 EXC is a joy for exactly that reason. Slow, tangled ground is a different story. Between fallen branches, tight turns and slippery climbs, the small engine has little torque low down, so the left hand ends up doing much of the work. The C7284 from Accossato gives the 125 EXC of 2009 to 2016 a clutch lever machined from Ergal 7075, with a blade that can fold forward when the bike topples.
Key Features
- Folding off-road clutch lever for the KTM 125 EXC, 2009 to 2016
- Covers both of Accossato's version groups, 2009–2013 and 2014–2016
- Mounts at the original clutch control on the left of the handlebar
- Long blade with room for four fingers
- Anti-break joint: in a fall, the blade can fold forward rather than snap
- CNC-milled in Italy from solid Ergal 7075
- Black, blue or orange blade on a dark base
- No German ABE documented; for off-road and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
The blade of the C7284 is longer than that of the brake lever Accossato makes for the same bike, because it is drawn for four fingers. On a 125 that length is welcome, since the clutch is in use almost constantly. The lever is built as two parts: a dark base that stays on the pivot and a coloured blade hinged to it. Both are machined on CNC equipment in Italy from solid Ergal 7075, a high-strength aluminium alloy, and Accossato's stated aims are strength, low weight and reliability.
A Small Engine in Slow Terrain
Riders who come to a 125 EXC from a four-stroke often bog it in the first technical section they meet. The engine makes its power high in the rev range, and at walking pace it simply does not pull. The answer is to hold the revs up and meter the drive with the clutch: slip it through a muddy turn, feather it over a root, pull it in for a moment so the engine can climb back into its power, then let it bite again. Over a morning in the woods the left hand may repeat that hundreds of times.
Slow sections also produce slow falls. A boot slips off a wet stone, the bike leans past the point of return and settles onto its left side, usually on ground that is anything but soft. With a solid lever, that gentle tip-over can take the end off the blade and leave a jagged stub for the rest of the ride. The C7284's joint gives the blade room to fold forward instead, so there is a good chance the lever is still whole when the bike is back on its wheels. It cannot prevent every break, but on a 125 EXC that lives on its clutch, a whole lever matters.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato splits the KTM 125 EXC into two version groups, 2009 to 2013 and 2014 to 2016, and names the C7284 for both, at the original clutch mount. The folding brake lever for the same bike, the B8283, is listed only from 2014 to 2016, so owners of an earlier 125 EXC fit this lever on its own. Both levers are made in black, blue and orange.
Road Approval
No German ABE is on record for the C7284. The 125 EXC can carry a number plate, but this lever is not approved for public roads and is intended for off-road riding and racing.
