DescriptionThe whole story▼
On a hard-enduro climb the bike does not always go up under its own power. When a Husqvarna TE 300 is stuck on a slope, riders help one another: one pushes from behind, another pulls at the front, sometimes with a strap hooked round the fork. The bike is dragged, tilted, laid on its side and lifted again, and its levers scrape along roots and rocks all the way. For the TE 300 of 2017 Accossato makes the C7284, a clutch lever milled in Italy from Ergal 7075 whose blade can fold rather than break when it catches.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the Husqvarna TE 300, model year 2017
- Goes on the original clutch mount, replacing the stock lever
- Accossato's anti-break joint lets the blade fold forward instead of snapping
- Long blade laid out for four fingers
- Machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Dark base with a black, blue or orange blade
- Delivered as one lever
- No German ABE documented; for off-road and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Villastellone, a small town near Turin, is home to Accossato today, and the company's off-road levers are made in Italy. The C7284 is CNC-machined from solid Ergal 7075, a particularly strong form of aluminium, and the aim is a part that is strong, light and dependable. The lever is divided in two: a dark base stays on the clutch pivot, and a blade in the colour you select is attached by a joint. For the clutch side the blade is drawn long, with space for four fingers.
Hauling the Bike Up the Hill
Teamwork on steep climbs is a normal part of hard enduro, both in races and on weekend rides. The rider stays on the bike and feeds the clutch while two helpers push and pull, or the machine is turned on its side and dragged over a lip it cannot climb. In the worst sections a group moves each bike up a few metres at a time. Levers suffer in every one of these moves. They catch on roots, get pressed into the dirt when the bike is laid down and take knocks whenever someone loses their footing.
The C7284 is designed with that kind of treatment in mind. If the TE 300 is dragged over a rock on its left side, the blade can give way forward on its joint instead of staying rigid until it snaps. It can still be damaged, and a lever trapped under the bike at a bad angle may not survive. But when the group finally reaches the top and the rider needs the clutch to ride away, a lever that folded instead of breaking is worth a great deal. Folding levers are a common early upgrade among riders who spend their weekends on hills like these.
Fitment and Compatibility
Only one model year of the Husqvarna TE 300 is on the C7284's list: 2017, where it fits the original clutch mount. For the TE 300 of 2014 to 2016 the clutch lever is the C7283 instead. The B8283 folding brake lever covers the TE 300 from 2014 to 2017, so a 2017 bike can be fitted with a pair that matches in black, blue or orange.
Road Approval
No German ABE applies to the C7284. It is intended for off-road riding and competition; on a TE 300 used on public roads it is not approved.
