DescriptionThe whole story▼
A 250 four-stroke motocrosser rewards the rider who keeps it revving, and the Husqvarna FC 250 is no exception. Let the revs drop in a slow corner and the engine stumbles; fan the clutch at the right moment and the bike pulls cleanly away. That makes the left-hand lever one of the busiest controls on the machine. For the FC 250 of 2014 and 2015, and for the 2022 model, Accossato offers the C7283: a folding clutch lever machined from Ergal 7075, with a long blade that the whole hand can work.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the Husqvarna FC 250, model years 2014, 2015 and 2022
- Fits the original clutch mount in place of the standard lever
- Long blade laid out for four fingers
- Anti-break joint lets the blade fold forward in a crash
- Milled from a solid block of Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Blade in black, blue, orange or red on a dark base
- No German ABE on record; for motocross and off-road competition
Construction and Material Quality
On a motocross bike the clutch is pulled more often than any other control, sometimes several times in one corner, so its lever has to stay stiff and precise from the first lap to the last. Accossato machines the C7283 from solid Ergal 7075, a high-strength aluminium alloy, on CNC equipment in Italy, and names strength, low weight and reliability as its goals. There are two parts. The base, in a dark finish, sits at the pivot; the blade hangs from it on the folding joint and can be black, blue, orange or red. Being a clutch lever, it has the longer of Accossato's two blade shapes, drawn for four fingers.
Keeping the Revs Up
Watch a quick rider on a 250F through a slow hairpin and the left hand is working as hard as the right. The throttle holds the engine near the top of its range, the clutch is slipped to let just enough drive reach the rear tyre, and as the bike comes upright the lever is let out completely. Done well, the FC 250 leaves the turn already pulling. Done badly, the engine sags below its useful range and the bike crawls out while others go past. It is a skill that takes seasons to refine, and it depends on a lever the fingers can find without looking.
All that clutch work happens with the bike leaned over and the rider's weight forward, which is also where many small crashes begin. A foot slips off the peg in a rut, the front knifes in, and the FC 250 goes down on its left. A conventional lever meets the ground at full length and tends to break towards the end. The C7283's joint allows the blade to fold forward instead, giving it a reasonable chance of coming through the tumble. There is no guarantee attached, but a clutch lever that still works after a fall lets the rider rejoin and finish the moto.
Fitment and Compatibility
Two separate groups of the Husqvarna FC 250 appear under the C7283 in Accossato's list: the 2014 and 2015 bikes, and the 2022 model. It mounts at the original clutch control. The years in between belong to a different clutch lever, the C7284, which Accossato lists for 2016 to 2020, and no Accossato clutch lever is listed for the 2021 FC 250. For the front brake there is the B8283, covering 2014 to 2020 and 2022. Red is available on this clutch lever only; black, blue and orange run through all three.
Road Approval
No German ABE has been documented for the C7283. It is meant for motocross and closed off-road circuits, the same ground the FC 250 was built for.
