DescriptionThe whole story▼
Many of the trails ridden on a KTM 500 XC-W are shared with walkers, horse riders and mountain bikers. Round a blind corner there may be a family with a dog, or a horse that startles at engine noise, and the rider has to slow to walking pace within a few metres. That is a job for the front brake, used calmly. Accossato's B8283 for the 500 XC-W of 2014 to 2016 puts a short blade under three fingers for those stops, and its joint lets the blade fold if the bike tips over.

Construction and Material Quality
What sets the B8283 apart from a conventional lever is the hinge between its dark base and its blade. The base stays on the master cylinder pivot; the blade, in black, blue or orange, can fold forward when something hits it. Accossato machines both from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy, relying on the high-strength aluminium alloy for strength, low weight and reliability. The blade is short and designed for three fingers.
Sharing the Trail
Good trail manners start with speed. Riders who share their trails take blind corners slowly, stop when they meet horses, switch the engine off if a horse seems nervous and let walkers pass. On a big four-stroke like the 500 XC-W that means frequent, controlled stops, and bringing a heavy bike to a halt on a narrow, sloping trail is a moment when it can easily tip over. If the ground under the front wheel falls away to the right, the bike goes down on that side.
The resulting fall is slow, but the 500 is heavy, and the brake lever takes much of the load. A solid lever can bend or break. With the B8283, the blade can pivot forward out from under the bike, so it may well come through intact and you can carry on calmly once the trail is clear instead of limping home with a damaged brake. Riding with care rather than speed is part of keeping such trails open, and a KTM 500 XC-W that stops smoothly helps to make a good impression.
Fitment and Compatibility
Model years 2014 to 2016 of the KTM 500 XC-W are the ones Accossato names for the B8283, which takes over from the stock brake lever. If your bike is a 2012 or 2013, look at the left side instead: the folding C7283 fits the whole run from 2012 to 2016. Black, blue and orange are offered on both levers, red on the clutch lever only.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the B8283. It is intended for off-road use and competition.
