DescriptionThe whole story▼
Winter trail riding has its own rules. The ground can be frozen hard in the morning and greasy by midday, puddles hide a skin of ice and the shade under the trees stays frosty all day. On a KTM 450 XC-W, the big four-stroke enduro KTM built mainly for the American market, the front brake is used with extra care in those conditions. For the 450 XC-W of 2014 to 2016, Accossato's B8303 gives that brake a short three-finger blade in black or gold, hinged to fold if the ice has the last word.

Construction and Material Quality
Accossato, whose home today is Villastellone near Turin, makes the B8303 in Italy by CNC-machining solid Ergal 7075. The high-strength aluminium alloy serves the goals the company names for its levers: strength, low weight and reliability. The B8303 has a dark base on the master cylinder pivot and a blade in black or gold, linked by a joint that allows the blade to fold forward. On this brake lever the blade is short, with room for three fingers.
Frost in the Shade
On frozen ground the front tyre has little grip. Braking in a straight line before a turn, using the rear more than usual and squeezing the front lever gently are the basics. On ice itself, most riders avoid braking altogether and simply roll across upright, throttle steady and bars straight. The 450 XC-W's torque needs care as well: a higher gear than usual and a smooth throttle keep the rear tyre from spinning on the frozen surface.
Falls on frozen ground are usually sudden. The front tyre slides on a patch of ice and the bike drops to the side almost before you notice, onto soil that is as hard as rock. If the bike goes down on its right, the brake lever takes that impact. The B8303's blade is hinged, so it can swing forward on impact and may come through intact. Nothing guarantees that, but on a cold day far from the truck, a KTM 450 XC-W with a working front brake is a much better prospect for the ride back.
Fitment and Compatibility
The B8303 is meant for the KTM 450 XC-W of the 2014, 2015 and 2016 model years and takes the place of the original brake lever. The C7303 clutch lever is listed for the same three years. If you want both sides to look the same, black is the only option, because the brake lever is otherwise made in gold and the clutch lever in orange.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the B8303, and it is supplied for off-road use and competition.
