DescriptionThe whole story▼
Modern cross-country and enduro courses rarely rely on nature alone. Organisers add log piles, stacks of tyres and rock gardens, often where spectators gather, and these short sections punish mistakes at low speed. The KTM 300 XC, KTM's 300 two-stroke for cross-country racing, has the torque to crawl through them, but it is the front brake that sets the bike up for each obstacle. Accossato's B8283, listed for the 300 XC of 2014 to 2022, puts a short three-finger blade on that brake and lets it fold forward when an obstacle gets the better of you.
Key Features
- Folding brake lever for the KTM 300 XC, 2014 to 2022 model years
- Mounts on the original front brake master cylinder in place of the stock lever
- Blade hinged to fold forward on impact
- Short brake blade for three fingers
- CNC-machined in Italy from Ergal 7075
- Blade in black, blue or orange
- One lever supplied
- No German ABE documented; for off-road and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Three fingers on the lever and the rest of the hand on the grip: that is the layout Accossato chose for the B8283, and the blade is deliberately short. Behind it is a dark base that stays on the pivot of the master cylinder, and between the two sits the hinge that lets the blade fold forward. Both are machined on CNC equipment in Italy out of solid 7075-grade Ergal, the aluminium alloy Accossato relies on for strength, low weight and reliability.
Logs, Tyres and Rock Gardens
Man-made obstacles are ridden in short, precise bursts. Approach a log pile too fast and the front wheel bounces off; too slowly and the 300 XC stalls against it. The front brake sets the entry speed, often with the bike almost at a standstill, and then the rider drives forward on clutch and throttle. In a tyre section the pattern repeats every few metres: brake, weight back, drive, brake again. It is fine work, and the lever needs to sit exactly where three fingers expect to find it.
Low-speed obstacles also account for a large share of the tip-overs in a race. A wheel drops between two tyres, the bike stops dead and falls over, often onto something hard and uneven. On the right side, the brake lever can land on the edge of a log or wedge itself between two rocks. The B8283 has a joint that lets the blade tip forward, which gives it a chance to survive a knock like that. Stand the KTM 300 XC up, find your line again, and the lever may well be ready for the next obstacle.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the KTM 300 XC, the B8283 is listed from 2014 to 2022 and fits the stock front brake master cylinder. There is no brake lever in this range for 300 XC models before 2014. The C7283 folding clutch lever covers the bike from 2006 to 2022 and comes in the same black, blue and orange, plus red.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the B8283. It is intended for off-road courses and racing, which is where the 300 XC belongs.
Scope of Delivery
