DescriptionThe whole story▼
Tight woodland singletrack is where many owners of a KTM 250 EXC-F spend their favourite days. The four-stroke enduro is light enough to thread between trunks for hours, yet the trail keeps asking for small, quick inputs at the front brake, and a wet root can push the front wheel sideways before you have time to react. Accossato's B8283 takes over from the stock brake lever on the 250 EXC-F built from 2014 to 2022. It is milled from Ergal 7075, and a joint allows its blade to fold forward if the bike ends up on its right side.
Key Features
- Folding CNC brake lever for the KTM 250 EXC-F, model years 2014 to 2022
- Takes the place of the stock lever on the original front brake master cylinder
- Anti-break joint lets the blade tip forward in a fall
- Shorter blade, designed by Accossato for three fingers
- Machined from solid Ergal 7075 aluminium alloy, made in Italy
- Dark base, blade in black, blue or orange
- Supplied as a single brake lever
- No German ABE on record; intended for off-road and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato begins with a solid block of Ergal 7075, an aluminium alloy of high strength, and mills the lever out of it on CNC machines in Italy. The company names three aims for the finished part: strength, low weight and reliability. What you get is a lever in two pieces. The dark base carries the pivot at the master cylinder, and the blade, in the colour you have chosen, is linked to it by the joint that lets it fold. On the brake side the blade is kept shorter than on Accossato's clutch lever and is sized for three fingers.
Roots Under the Front Wheel
Forest trails rarely offer a clean line. Roots cross the path at awkward angles, polished by other tyres and often damp beneath a layer of leaves, and a front tyre that is braking as it meets one tends to slide along it rather than climb over. Riders who are quick in the woods on a 250 EXC-F develop a rhythm: brake before the root, release while the wheel crosses it, brake again once it is behind them. The pattern repeats hundreds of times in a day, so the lever has to be exactly where the fingers expect it.
Now and then the rhythm fails and the front tucks. On a narrow trail the bike usually drops towards the side where the ground falls away, and when that is the right, the brake lever is among the first parts to strike soil or bark. A solid blade takes the blow at its tip and can snap there. The joint on the B8283 gives the blade a chance to swing forward out of harm's way. It cannot promise to come through every fall, but each time it does, you lift the bike and ride on with a working front brake, which matters when the van is an hour of trail away.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the B8283 for the KTM 250 EXC-F from 2014 to 2022, where it replaces the original lever on the stock front brake master cylinder. Earlier model years of the 250 EXC-F are not covered by this brake lever. For the left side there is the folding C7283 clutch lever, which Accossato lists across a longer run of the same bike, 2007 to 2022, and which is also made in red.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the B8283. The 250 EXC-F is usually registered for the road, but this lever is meant for off-road riding and competition, not for use on public roads.
Scope of Delivery
