DescriptionThe whole story▼
Not every motocross track is soft. In dry summers many circuits turn into hard, polished surfaces where the racing line shines dark with rubber and the loose dirt has been swept to the edges. On such a track a light two-stroke like the KTM 150 SX is quick but nervous under braking, and the front tyre gives little warning before it lets go. Accossato's B8283, milled from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy, replaces the brake lever on the 150 SX of 2014 to 2022, and its blade can hinge forward when the bike crashes.
Key Features
- Folding brake lever for the KTM 150 SX, 2014 to 2022
- Listed for the 2014–2015 and the 2016–2022 bikes
- Replaces the stock lever on the original front brake master cylinder
- Short blade, designed for three fingers
- Anti-break joint: the blade can fold forward when the bike falls
- CNC-milled from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Black, blue or orange blade, dark base
- No German ABE documented; for motocross and off-road competition
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato's CNC mills in Italy cut the B8283 from solid Ergal 7075. The alloy, a very strong grade of aluminium, was chosen with three aims in mind, strength, low weight and reliability, and the lever is made in two parts: a dark base on the pivot of the master cylinder, and a blade in black, blue or orange that joins it at the folding joint. The blade is short, drawn for three fingers, which keeps the thumb and little finger wrapped round the grip while braking on a slippery surface.
Hardpack That Shines
Riders call it blue groove: the racing line on a hard, dry track, polished by hundreds of laps until it is almost slick. Braking on it is a matter of feel. The front tyre has much less grip than in loamy dirt, and a lever squeezed too hard locks the wheel before the rider notices. Good riders brake earlier and progressively and ease off as they turn in; they also look for the edges of the line, where a little loose dirt and a few ruts still offer something to push against.
When it goes wrong, it happens fast. The front tucks, the 150 SX goes down, and on hardpack it slides a long way before it stops, with the right-hand lever scraping along a surface not far from concrete. That kind of slide can grind a solid lever away or snap it where it catches an edge. The B8283 is made to fold forward on its joint when its tip catches, rather than breaking there. It does not escape every slide intact, but it improves the odds of rejoining the moto with a working front brake.
Fitment and Compatibility
The B8283 covers the KTM 150 SX in both of the version groups Accossato names, 2014 to 2015 and 2016 to 2022, and fits the original front brake master cylinder. For the clutch, the year decides: bikes up to 2015 take the C7284, which Accossato lists from 2009, while the 2016 to 2022 bikes take the C7283, also offered in red. Both clutch levers share black, blue and orange with the brake lever.
Road Approval
The B8283 has no documented German ABE and is meant for motocross and other off-road competition, which is what the 150 SX is made for.
