DescriptionThe whole story▼
For many young riders the KTM 125 SX is the first full-size motocross bike, and behind a good number of them stands a parent with a toolbox, a pressure washer and a van. Race weekends run on that support. The 125 SX will go down in practice, in the first turn and now and then in the pits, and every broken part ends up on the parent's list. The B8283 is Accossato's answer for the 125 SX of 2014 to 2022: a brake lever CNC-milled from Ergal 7075, with a blade that can fold forward in a crash instead of breaking off.
Key Features
- Folding brake lever for the KTM 125 SX, 2014 to 2022
- Listed for both the 2014–2015 and the 2016–2022 bikes
- Replaces the stock lever on the original front brake master cylinder
- Short three-finger blade, as Accossato designs it
- Anti-break joint lets the blade swing forward on impact
- CNC-machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075
- Blade in black, blue or orange, dark base
- No German ABE documented; for motocross and off-road competition
Construction and Material Quality
The B8283 consists of a dark base, seated on the pivot of the master cylinder, and a coloured blade, black, blue or orange, the two joined by the folding joint. Accossato machines both parts from solid Ergal 7075, an aluminium alloy known for its strength, using CNC equipment at its works in Italy, and its aims are strength, low weight and reliability. The brake blade is the short design, meant for three fingers, which leaves the little finger wrapped round the grip.
The Mechanic Is Usually a Parent
Anyone who has spent a season in the pits at youth motocross knows the routine. Practice ends, the bike comes back muddy and bent in small places, and there is never much time before the first race. In that window the chain gets checked, the air filter perhaps changed, the bars straightened, and a broken brake lever turns into a job that needs a spare, a spanner and a steady hand. If there is no spare, it turns into a walk round the paddock, asking other families whether they have one.
A folding lever takes that job off the list more often than not. When a young rider lowsides in a rut and the 125 SX slides along on its right side, the joint on the B8283 lets the blade swing forward instead of taking the full blow at a fixed point. It will not survive every crash, and a parent with a few seasons behind them will still keep a spare in the box. But fewer broken levers mean fewer rushed repairs, and more time to talk the next race through with the rider before the 125 SX goes back to the line.
Fitment and Compatibility
Both versions of the KTM 125 SX that Accossato distinguishes here, 2014 to 2015 and 2016 to 2022, take the B8283 on the original front brake master cylinder. The clutch side depends on the year: the C7284 covers bikes up to 2015, the C7283 those from 2016, the latter also in red. A 2014 or 2015 125 SX can therefore take the B8283 together with the C7284, a later one with the C7283.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the B8283. It is intended for motocross and off-road competition, which is exactly where the 125 SX is raced.
