DescriptionThe whole story▼
Streams and fords turn up on almost every enduro loop, and the KTM 125 EXC gets through them more easily than its size might suggest: the light two-stroke can be steered round the deeper holes and lifted over a submerged rock. The awkward part is usually the way out, where the bank is slick with water carried up by every bike before yours. Accossato's B8283 replaces the front brake lever on the 125 EXC of 2014 to 2016. It is cut from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy, and its blade sits on a joint that lets it fold forward when a fall pushes it the wrong way.
Key Features
- Folding CNC front brake lever for the KTM 125 EXC, model years 2014 to 2016
- Takes the place of the original lever on the stock front brake master cylinder
- Accossato's anti-break joint allows the blade to swing forward in a fall
- Short blade, laid out for three fingers
- Milled in Italy from a solid piece of Ergal 7075 aluminium alloy
- Blade in black, blue or orange above a dark base
- No German ABE on record; intended for off-road riding and competition
Construction and Material Quality
Nothing on the B8283 is cast or stamped. Accossato mills both of its parts from solid Ergal 7075, a high-strength aluminium alloy, on CNC machines in Italy, and names strength, low weight and reliability as the goals behind that choice. The dark base mounts on the pivot of the master cylinder; the blade, in black, blue or orange, is attached to it at the joint that allows folding. As Accossato draws its off-road brake levers, this is the shorter design, sized for three fingers rather than the whole hand.
Wet Discs on the Far Bank
Riding through water is mostly about commitment: choose a line, hold a steady throttle and look at the exit rather than at the stream. The 125 EXC makes that easy, because there is little weight to fight if the front wheel drops into a hole. What catches riders out comes afterwards. A disc that has just been under water carries a film of it, and for the first few applications the pads grip less than you expect. Add a muddy bank, a root across the top and someone waiting behind you, and the first braking point after a crossing is where plenty of small crashes begin.
Experienced riders drag the front brake lightly for a short distance after leaving the water, wiping the disc so it bites normally again. Even so, a front tyre on a wet bank can slide away, and a 125 EXC that goes down to the right lands on its brake lever, often against the stones that line most stream beds. That is the situation the B8283 was designed for. Its joint lets the blade fold forward rather than absorb the blow at one fixed point. Nothing guarantees it will survive, but the odds of finishing the loop with a usable front brake improve.
Fitment and Compatibility
The KTM 125 EXC from 2014 to 2016 is where Accossato places the B8283, on the original front brake master cylinder. On the clutch side there is the C7284, which covers a longer span of the same bike, 2009 to 2016, and is offered in the same three colours, so a matching pair is possible on any 125 EXC from 2014 onwards. For a 2009 to 2013 model, only the clutch lever is available from this range.
Road Approval
The B8283 has no documented German ABE. The 125 EXC is a road-registered enduro, yet with this lever fitted it is not approved for use on public roads; we supply it for off-road riding and competition.
