DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Honda CRF250X was the off-road sibling of the CRF250R motocross bike: a 250cc four-stroke with an electric starter and lights, built for enduro loops, hare scrambles and long days in the woods. Woods riding has its own hazards, and one of them is simply the width of the trail. For the CRF250X of 2004 to 2017, Accossato offers the B8206, a front brake lever cut from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy, whose blade is hinged so it can give way forwards when it strikes something solid.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the Honda CRF250X, 2004 to 2017
- Replaces the stock lever on the original front brake master cylinder
- Blade folds forward on a joint when it takes a hit
- Shorter blade for three fingers
- CNC-machined from Ergal 7075, made in Italy
- Dark base, blade in black, blue, gold or red
- No German ABE documented; for off-road and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato cuts the B8206 from solid Ergal 7075 on CNC machines in Italy. The alloy ranks among the strongest aluminium grades in common use, which is why it turns up in aircraft structures, and Accossato chose it with three aims in mind: strength, low weight and reliability. The lever is split into a dark base, mounted on the master cylinder pivot, and a blade in the colour you select, attached to the base by a folding joint. The blade is short, for three fingers, in keeping with Accossato's brake levers.
Trees Close Enough to Touch
Tight woods trails are often only just wider than a handlebar. Riders learn to read the gaps between trunks, to tuck their elbows in at the narrowest points and to choose a line that keeps the bar ends clear. But concentration fades, the front wheel deflects off a root, and the end of the handlebar clips a tree at speed. It is one of the commonest ways to damage a lever without falling at all, and on the right it is the brake lever that takes the knock, often at the very moment it is needed for the next turn.
A solid lever struck at the tip either bends or breaks. The B8206 has a third option: its blade can swing forward on the joint, away from the tree, and be pulled back into position by hand. That gives you a real chance of riding on with a front brake that works, which on a CRF250X deep in a forest loop is worth a great deal. It is not certain, because a hard enough impact will still do damage, and handguards remain the first line of defence. But together, guards and a folding blade make it more likely that a brush with a tree costs a moment's fright rather than the rest of the ride.
Fitment and Compatibility
Every CRF250X from 2004 to 2017 is covered by the B8206 in Accossato's list; the lever goes onto Honda's standard front brake master cylinder in place of the stock one. For the clutch there is the C7210, a folding lever listed for the same years and made in black or red; a CRF250X with both levers in one colour therefore means black or red, while blue and gold stay exclusive to this brake lever.
Road Approval
The B8206 has no documented German ABE. Whether or not your CRF250X is registered, the lever is intended for off-road riding and competition only.
