DescriptionThe whole story▼
For a lot of riders, the Honda CRF250L is where off-road riding begins. It is a light, road-registered single-cylinder trail bike, gentle enough for a first day on gravel and dirt, and that first day nearly always includes a few slow-motion tip-overs. Accossato's B8301 is a folding brake lever for the CRF250L of 2012 to 2015. It is machined in Italy from Ergal 7075, and its blade sits on a joint that allows it to fold forward if the bike goes down on the right.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the Honda CRF250L, 2012 to 2015
- Replaces the original lever on the stock front brake master cylinder
- Anti-break joint gives the blade a chance to fold rather than snap
- Short blade shaped for three fingers
- Machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075 aluminium alloy
- Blade in black or red on a dark base
- No German ABE documented; for off-road use away from public roads
Construction and Material Quality
There is nothing complicated about the B8301, and that is part of its appeal for a newer rider. It consists of two parts, both CNC-machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy. The dark base mounts on the master cylinder pivot; the blade, black or red, is attached to it by a joint that lets it fold. Accossato chose the high-strength aluminium alloy to make the lever strong and reliable without adding weight, and kept the brake blade short, sized for three fingers.
The First Day Off Tarmac
Off-road training days follow a familiar pattern. The morning starts with standing on the pegs, slow figure-of-eight turns on grass and gentle stops using the front brake on loose ground. By lunchtime most people have dropped their bike at least once, usually at walking pace, usually while turning, and usually with an embarrassed laugh. The CRF250L is a forgiving machine for this, light enough to pick up without help, but its levers stick out at just the point that meets the ground first.
A standard lever that hits the ground in a slow drop often survives with a bend, sometimes it breaks, and a bent brake lever changes how the brake feels for the rest of the day. The B8301 behaves differently: its blade can swing forward on the joint when it strikes the ground, and if it does, you push it back into position by hand and carry on. Nothing is certain in a fall, but for a rider still learning, one less thing to worry about helps. The instructors' advice on braking applies whatever lever you fit: squeeze progressively, keep the bike upright while braking hard on loose ground, and look where you want to go rather than at the obstacle.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the B8301 for the Honda CRF250L from 2012 to 2015. It fits the original front brake master cylinder. On the left side, the C7301 folding clutch lever is listed for the same years and in the same two colours. Riders who prefer a rigid design will also find the EDF025 brake lever from Accossato, listed for the CRF250L of 2013 to 2015.
Road Approval
The CRF250L is a road-registered motorcycle, but the B8301 has no documented German ABE and is not approved for use on public roads. Fit it for off-road riding, training grounds and competition.
