DescriptionThe whole story▼
The RC8 was KTM's first superbike, a V-twin with sharp-edged bodywork that many owners take to the circuit rather than leave in the garage. Getting it there usually means a van or a trailer, and that journey is where a folding lever can prove its worth before the first session has even started. The Accossato LV012 is a folding brake lever for the RC8 1190, listed from 2008 to 2015. It fits the original master cylinder, adjusts for reach and consists of a black base and a coloured blade that can fold at the joint between them.
Key Features
- Folding brake lever for the KTM RC8 1190, 2008 to 2015
- Uses the original front brake master cylinder
- Blade hinged to a black base, able to fold under impact
- Adjustable distance to the grip
- RST blade with lightening cut-out, or NRST without
- Seven blade colours, orange included
- Standard length, anodised CNC-machined aluminium
Construction and Material Quality
The LV012 is machined on CNC equipment from aluminium and anodised in two tones. The base, black in every case, sits on the lever pivot and carries the reach adjuster. The blade is anodised separately in black, blue, gold, green, orange, red or silver and is attached to the base by the joint that allows it to fold. An anodised surface is hard and does not flake the way paint can, which suits a part that gets handled every time the bike is loaded, unloaded or pushed through a paddock.
Strapped Down in a Van
Ratchet straps and handlebars have an uneasy relationship. To hold an RC8 1190 upright in a van, the usual method is to compress the front suspension with straps running from the bars or the lower yoke to anchor points in the floor. The brake lever sits right beside the spot where hooks and soft loops go, and a strap pulled tight at a slight angle can press on the blade. More often, the damage happens when something shifts on the road: a strap works loose on a long motorway run, the bike leans against a side panel or a toolbox, and the lever takes the load. A folding blade has room to give way in that moment, which reduces the chance of arriving with a bent lever and a session to miss. After unloading, fold the blade back into its working position and check it before you ride. Loading remains the rider's job, of course; route straps away from both levers wherever you can, and look at the blade again at every fuel stop on the way.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the LV012 for the RC8 1190 from 2008 to 2015, mounted on the original front master cylinder. For the same years, the RA001 adds a 90-degree remote adjuster to the folding design. Accossato also makes fixed levers for this KTM: the EDF099 brake lever, listed from 2009 to 2016, and the ESM011 on the clutch side, listed from 2008 to 2016.
Road Approval
For the LV012 there is no documented German ABE; it is a track product in our range.
