DescriptionThe whole story▼
Yamaha offered the XJ6 as a naked bike, with a half fairing as the XJ6 Diversion and fully faired as the Diversion F, and Accossato lists a single clutch lever for all three: the ESY688. Here it is offered for the XJ6, listed from 2009 to 2016. The lever is machined from aluminium and anodised, it fits the original clutch mounting, and the distance between blade and grip can be adjusted. On a bike that many owners use as everyday transport, that adjustment earns its keep on cold mornings in particular.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Yamaha XJ6, 2009 to 2016
- Accossato also lists it for the XJ6 Diversion and Diversion F
- Fits the original clutch mounting
- Reach to the grip adjustable
- Short blade in blue, green, orange, gold and silver
- Standard blade approx. 138 mm in all seven colours, long blade in four
- Aluminium, CNC-machined and anodised, black hub
- Rigid lever with no folding joint
Construction and Material Quality
CNC machining reproduces a shape with great accuracy, lever after lever, and the ESY688 is made that way: cut from aluminium, then anodised. That counts on a bike that is parked outdoors and may one day tip over in a car park, because a replacement will match the lever it replaces, and the reach you had set can simply be dialled in again. The hub is anodised black and houses the pivot bore and the adjuster; the blade takes the colour you order. As a fixed lever, it is one continuous piece with no folding joint.
Cold Mornings, Thick Oil
A wet multi-plate clutch behaves differently while the oil is still cold and thick. The plates do not separate quite as cleanly, so first gear may go in with a clunk, and the bike may want to creep forward while you wait at the first junction of the day. Pulling the lever right back to the grip helps, which is why the reach adjustment has a limit worth knowing about. If you set the blade so close that it meets your ring and little fingers before the end of its travel, the clutch never frees completely. On the XJ6, bring the lever in only as far as a full pull still passes your fingers. Riders who work the clutch with two fingers often choose the short blade, because it clears the other fingers altogether. Once the engine is warm, the drag largely disappears.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list covers the whole XJ6 family with this lever: the naked XJ6-N for 2009 to 2012 and 2013 to 2016, the half-faired XJ6-S Diversion from 2009 to 2015, and the fully faired XJ6-F Diversion for 2010 to 2012, with a separate entry for 2013. For this product the listing therefore runs from 2009 to 2016. The lever replaces the original at the stock clutch mounting. On the brake side, Accossato makes the EDF016 for the XJ6, listed for the same years.
Road Approval
This clutch lever comes without a documented German type approval (ABE), and we offer it for the racetrack.
