DescriptionThe whole story▼
The R6 has always been a compact motorcycle, and riders with large hands often find its cockpit tight. The clutch lever is one of the places where that shows: a blade shaped for an average hand leaves long fingers bunched up or hanging off its end. The Accossato ESY688 is a CNC-machined aluminium clutch lever for the R6, listed by Accossato from 1999 to 2016, and its adjustable reach and optional long blade give a big hand more room to work.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the R6, listed from 1999 to 2016
- Covers the R6 S versions on Accossato's list
- Reach adjustable, including further out for large hands
- Long blade for four fingers in blue, gold, green or orange
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm; short in five colours
- Machined aluminium, anodised, black hub
- Fixed design without a hinge
Construction and Material Quality
The ESY688 is cut from aluminium on CNC machines and anodised, black at the hub and in your chosen colour along the blade. Machined edges are clean and consistent, which you notice when the whole hand rests on the blade rather than just the fingertips. The anodised finish is part of the aluminium, not a coating, so the lever copes with years of use without flaking. There is no folding section, and the blade stays fixed to the hub as one continuous part.
A Compact Bike, a Large Hand
With a large hand, a short or tightly adjusted clutch lever causes two problems. The fingers bunch up at full pull, and the little finger ends up beyond the end of the blade, so part of the hand does no work at all. Over a long ride that concentrates the effort in fewer fingers and tires them quickly. The long ESY688 addresses both: its extra length gives all four fingers space, and its greater leverage reduces the force needed to pull the clutch. The reach adjuster is the second tool. Moving the blade further from the grip lets a big hand meet it at the first finger joints instead of curling tightly around it. Check the result with the engine off, pulling the lever all the way in while wearing the gloves you ride in, and make sure the fingers have room until the end of the travel. For a tall rider on an R6, getting the clutch right will not make the bike any bigger, but it removes one of the small discomforts that add up over a day.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESY688 for the R6 from 1999 to 2016, a period that spans several generations of the bike, and also names the R6 S versions of 2006 to 2009. It replaces the original clutch lever at the stock mounting. The R6 of 2017 to 2020 uses a different Accossato clutch lever, the ESV04A. On the brake side, Accossato lists the EDR104 for 2005 to 2016; for R6 models built before 2005, no brake lever appears on its list.
Road Approval
For the ESY688 no German ABE is documented, and we sell it for use on the track.
