DescriptionThe whole story▼
Some of Europe's great touring roads are barely wider than a car. In the Scottish Highlands and on many Norwegian mountain roads, long stretches are single-track, with passing places where one vehicle waits for the other. On a big tourer such as the Trophy 1200, that means slowing, stopping, waiting and moving off again, over and over. Accossato's ESC777 is a machined aluminium clutch lever for the Trophy of 2013 to 2017, and its reach can be set so the left hand copes with all of it at ease.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Trophy 1200 and Trophy 1200 SE, 2013 to 2017
- Mounts at the original clutch mounting
- Reach to the grip adjustable
- Short, standard (approx. 138 mm) or long blade, depending on colour
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised
- Hub black; blade black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green
- Rigid blade, no hinge
- No German ABE documented; sold for track use
Construction and Material Quality
A touring clutch lever works in cycles: long periods of rest on open roads, then bursts of constant use in towns and on narrow lanes. The ESC777 is machined from aluminium on CNC equipment and anodised, so the pivot bore in its black hub is cleanly cut and the blade carries its colour as part of the metal rather than on top of it. The reach adjuster sits in the hub, near the pivot. Between hub and tip there is no joint of any kind; the blade is rigid and returns to exactly the same position whenever you let go.
Passing Places
The etiquette on single-track roads is simple. Whoever is nearer a passing place pulls into it, or stops opposite it, and waits; the other driver acknowledges with a wave. On a motorcycle the size of the Trophy, following that etiquette means a great deal of low-speed work. You slow, pull the clutch, stop, and move off again once the car has gone by, often on a gradient and sometimes with loose gravel at the edge of the tarmac. The bike's weight, and perhaps a passenger, make a clean, unhurried start all the more important. Hold the friction point a moment longer than you would on flat, dry ground, feed in the drive smoothly and keep the handlebar straight until the Trophy is rolling. That rhythm is easier when the lever sits exactly where your fingers expect it. Set the reach so your fingers can hold the friction point without stretching, and consider the long blade if the day's many starts begin to tire your hand.
Fitment and Compatibility
The ESC777 is on Accossato's list for the Trophy 1200 and its SE version, 2013 to 2017 in both cases, and it fits at the original clutch mounting. The EDF014 brake lever is listed for the same bikes and years, so the two can be ordered together in one colour. Note that black and red blades are made only in the standard length and that silver is available standard or short.
Road Approval
The ESC777 has no German ABE on record. We offer it as a lever for track use.
