DescriptionThe whole story▼
A stall at a busy junction is awkward on any motorcycle, and on a tall adventure bike like the Tiger 800 XRx it is also the moment you want the engine running again as quickly as possible. With a gear still engaged, most modern motorcycles will only restart once the clutch lever is pulled in, because a switch at the lever mounting tells the electronics that the drive is disconnected. The Accossato EST333P is a machined aluminium clutch lever for the XRx of 2015 to 2018 with an adjustable reach, and part of fitting it properly is checking that this switch still does its job.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Tiger 800 XRx, 2015 to 2018
- Fits the original clutch mounting
- Reach to the grip adjustable
- Three blade lengths; the standard one approximately 138 mm
- Black and red standard only, silver also short, blue, gold, green and orange in every length
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised, black hub
- One-piece rigid blade
- For track use; no German ABE documented
Construction and Material Quality
This clutch lever is cut from a solid aluminium blank on CNC machines, then anodised. Every EST333P has a black hub, housing the pivot and the reach adjustment, and a blade anodised in the colour you pick. Machining rather than casting gives accurate surfaces at the pivot end, where the lever meets the original mounting on the XRx. Between hub and tip there is no joint, so the blade cannot fold or wobble, and it comes back to the same resting position each time you let go.
The Switch Behind the Lever
On most bikes of this generation, a small switch at the clutch lever mounting reports whether the lever is pulled. Its everyday job is to allow the engine to be started with a gear engaged, and it is easy to forget until it stops working. After fitting a new lever, run through a short check before you ride. With the side stand up and first gear selected, the starter should only turn when the clutch lever is pulled; in neutral, the engine should start as it did before. If the XRx refuses to start in gear with the lever pulled fully, the switch is not being operated, and the fitting needs another look before the bike is used. Once everything works, a stall at a junction is dealt with in seconds: lever in, starter pressed, and away. Set the reach so that pulling the blade all the way to the grip is easy in your usual gloves, because a switch can only register a lever that actually gets there.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list pairs the EST333P with the Tiger 800 XRx of 2015 to 2018, where it replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mounting. The matching EDF014 brake lever covers the same model years. The XR, XC and XCx versions of the Tiger 800 each have their own entries, so it pays to check which one you ride.
Road Approval
A German ABE has not been documented for the EST333P; the lever is offered for circuit use.
