DescriptionThe whole story▼
When Suzuki relaunched the SV650 for 2016, it kept the proven V-twin and added a few quiet helpers. One of them, Low RPM Assist, raises the engine speed slightly as the clutch is let out at low revs, making the engine less likely to stall when pulling away or creeping along. It makes starts easier, but the friction point is still found by your fingers. The Accossato ESS248 is a CNC-machined aluminium clutch lever for the SV650 of 2016 to 2022, with an adjustable reach and a blade in one of seven colours.
Key Features
- Replaces the clutch lever of the SV650, 2016 to 2022
- Fits the original clutch mounting
- Reach adjustable near the pivot
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm; short and long in several colours
- Seven anodised blade colours with a black hub
- CNC-machined aluminium
- Rigid one-piece blade, no hinge
Construction and Material Quality
Anodising is the reason the ESS248 keeps its colour. After the lever has been machined from aluminium on CNC equipment, its surface is converted electrochemically into a hard oxide layer, and the dye is sealed inside it. There is no separate coat that a glove or a key could wear through. Accossato finishes the hub black, around the pivot and the reach adjuster, and gives the blade the colour you order. Between the two there is no joint: the lever is fixed, a single piece that operates the clutch the same way on every pull.
Electronics Help, Fingers Decide
Low RPM Assist works in the background and smooths the first metres from a standstill, which makes slow manoeuvres more forgiving. What it cannot do is decide how quickly the lever is released. That remains a matter of feel, and feel is sharper when the lever sits at a comfortable distance. With the blade adjusted so that the fingers are gently bent when they rest on it, small movements at the friction point become precise, which is exactly what a walking-pace turn out of a tight parking space asks for. It also pays off when the engine is cold on a winter morning and the first pull-away of the day needs a little more care. The ESS248 comes in short, standard and long versions: blue, gold, green and orange are offered in all three, silver in short and standard, while black and red are made only in the standard length. For an SV650 that is mostly ridden in town, the long blade and its lighter pull are worth considering.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESS248 for the SV650 from 2016 to 2022, the model years of the relaunched bike, and it attaches at the original clutch mounting. Older SVs from 1999 to 2015 take a different Accossato clutch lever, the ESS650. For the front brake, the EDF014 is listed across the whole span from 1999 to 2022.
Road Approval
A German ABE is not documented for the ESS248; accordingly, it is offered for track use.
