DescriptionThe whole story▼
Plenty of Hypermotard 821 owners fit a different handlebar sooner or later, for another bend, a lower or higher position, or simply because the original bar suffered in a tip-over. Every change of bar alters the angle at which the hand meets the levers, and the clutch is the one you notice first, because the left hand works it at every gear change and every standstill. Accossato's ESD082 is a clutch lever milled from aluminium for the Hypermotard 821 and 821 SP of 2013 to 2015, and its reach can be adjusted to the new position.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Hypermotard 821 and 821 SP, 2013 to 2015
- Fits the original clutch mounting
- Reach to the grip adjustable
- Standard version approximately 138 mm; short and long blades in selected colours
- Milled aluminium, anodised in two tones
- Black hub, blade colour of your choice
- One-piece design without a hinge
- Track use; no German ABE documented
Construction and Material Quality
The ESD082 is anodised in two tones for a practical reason. The hub sits right against the clutch mounting and the switchgear, so it is black on every lever and blends in with the parts around it. Only the blade, the section you look at and touch, carries a colour. Underneath, the lever is aluminium machined from the solid on CNC machines, with the reach adjuster in the hub close to the pivot and a blade that runs as one rigid piece to the tip, without any folding joint.
After a Handlebar Change
A new bar on the Hypermotard 821 changes more than the look. Pull the grips back and the wrists straighten; drop them and the elbows bend differently; widen them and the hands open further. Each variation moves the point where your fingers naturally fall, and a clutch lever that suited the original bar may suddenly feel a little too far away or too close. The adjuster on the ESD082 takes care of that distance.
The angle of the lever is a separate matter, set by the position of the clutch assembly on the bar, and it is easiest to correct while the new bar is going on. Aim for a lever that continues the line of your forearm in your normal riding position. Then try a few slow starts in a quiet street before the first proper ride, because the friction point will feel different until the hand has relearned it.
Fitment and Compatibility
This lever is listed by Accossato for the Hypermotard 821 and the Hypermotard 821 SP from 2013 to 2015. For the front brake, the two versions need different Accossato levers: the EDB012 for the standard bike, listed for 2013 to 2016, and the EDD001 for the SP. The brake list therefore runs one year longer than this clutch lever, and for a 2016 Hypermotard 821 Accossato names the brake lever only.
Road Approval
A German ABE is not documented for this part. It is offered for closed-course use.
