DescriptionThe whole story▼
Sooner or later every GS rider meets the road that ends at a gate, a landslide or a farmyard, and the only way on is back. Turning a loaded BMW R 1200 GS around on a narrow track is a slow, deliberate manoeuvre: full steering lock, a slipping clutch, a light touch of rear brake and eyes fixed on where the bike should go. The ESC075 from Accossato gives the liquid-cooled R 1200 GS of 2013 to 2019 a clutch lever whose distance from the grip you can set yourself.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the BMW R 1200 GS, 2013 to 2019
- Takes the place of the original lever at the factory clutch mounting
- Blade distance to the grip adjustable
- Standard length in every colour; short and long in selected colours
- Aluminium, CNC-machined and anodised
- Black hub, blade in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green
- Rigid, one-piece construction
- No German ABE documented; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
To make the ESC075, Accossato machines solid aluminium into shape and then anodises it. The result is a two-tone lever, black at the hub and coloured along the blade, with no hinge anywhere between them. The hub is the working centre of the part, containing the pivot and the adjuster that decides where the blade rests. Anodising gives the surface a hard, even finish that keeps its colour through rain, dust and the occasional brush against a pannier or a fence post.
The Slow Turn on a Narrow Track
A tight U-turn is where clutch control decides whether the bike stays upright. The engine is held at a steady, slightly raised speed while the clutch alone sets how much drive reaches the rear wheel. Pull in a little and the R 1200 GS slows and leans further; let out a little and it straightens and drives through the turn. All of that happens within a small part of the lever's travel, so the blade has to be exactly where the fingers expect it.
Setting the blade closer to the grip helps riders with shorter fingers keep that control at full lock on the R 1200 GS, when one arm is stretched and both hands are turned on the grips. The short blade, made in blue, gold and green, supports two-finger control; the long one, in blue, green and orange, lightens the pull for riders who work the clutch with the whole hand. Practise the turn in an empty car park first, in both directions, before you need it on a mountain track.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato gives 2013 to 2019 as the years for the ESC075 on the R 1200 GS, which means the liquid-cooled bikes. The ESB002 is listed as an alternative for 2013 to 2016 and also reaches back to the air/oil-cooled GS of 2004, so owners of those overlapping years can compare both with their original part. On the brake side, the EDB077 shares the 2013 to 2019 listing and the EDB001 runs from 2004 to 2016. The R 1200 GS Adventure has listings of its own.
Road Approval
Without a documented German ABE, this lever is sold for racing circuits.
