DescriptionThe whole story▼
Every long ride on a K 1300 S includes fuel stops, and fuel station forecourts are among the most slippery surfaces a motorcycle ever crosses. Spilled diesel, often invisible, lies on the concrete around the pumps and at the exits. Pulling away from there with a powerful four takes a delicate left hand. Accossato's ESB002 gives the K 1300 S of 2009 to 2016 a machined aluminium clutch lever at the original clutch mounting, with a reach you can adjust for exactly this kind of careful release.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the BMW K 1300 S, 2009 to 2016
- Also listed for the K 1300 S Motorsport, 2014 and 2015
- Swaps in for the stock lever at the original clutch mounting
- Distance to the grip adjustable
- Standard length of about 138 mm in every colour
- CNC-machined aluminium, two-tone anodised
- Fixed blade, no folding joint
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato mills the ESB002 from aluminium on CNC machines and anodises it, the hub black, with its pivot bore and reach adjuster, and the blade in the colour you order. An anodised surface is hard and sealed, and it cleans up with water and a mild detergent; there is no paint to lift at the edges. The lever is rigid, a single piece without a folding joint, so the friction point is always found at the same place in its travel, which is exactly what a careful start on a slippery surface calls for.
Leaving the Fuel Station
Diesel on concrete behaves almost like ice, and it tends to collect exactly where motorcycles stop, turn and pull away. The trick is to treat every forecourt as slippery until proven otherwise. Look for a rainbow sheen or dark patches and steer round them, keep the bike upright while it is moving slowly, and pull away with as little drive as possible. On the K 1300 S that means a patient clutch: release it slowly with the engine barely above idle, let the bike roll a couple of metres before adding throttle, and change up to second early so the rear tyre receives gentle drive. The same care applies when turning out onto the road, especially in the wet, when the diesel spreads. A lever that meets your fingers comfortably makes such a slow release easier to control, because the hand is not held wide open. Set the ESB002 accordingly, and let the pull be smooth.
Fitment and Compatibility
Three entries cover the K 1300 S with the ESB002: 2009 to 2015, 2009 to 2016 and the K 1300 S Motorsport of 2014 and 2015. The lever fits the original clutch mounting, and its partner on the brake side is the EDB001, with the same hub and colour range.
Road Approval
Without a documented German ABE, the ESB002 is sold for use on the circuit.
