DescriptionThe whole story▼
The G 650 GS is BMW's single-cylinder GS: a light, uncomplicated motorcycle that many riders choose as their first bike with the GS name, and one that is as much at home in town as on a gravel road. A big single has habits of its own at low speed. Below a certain engine speed it stops running smoothly and starts to judder, so the clutch has more to do than on a bike with more cylinders. For the G 650 GS of 2009 to 2015, Accossato lists the ESB008, a clutch lever machined from aluminium whose distance to the grip can be adjusted.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the BMW G 650 GS, 2009 to 2015
- Mounts at the original BMW clutch mounting
- Adjustable reach
- Standard blade about 138 mm in every colour
- Short blade in blue, gold, green, orange and silver; long in blue, gold, green and orange
- CNC-machined, anodised aluminium
- Black hub, fixed one-piece blade
Construction and Material Quality
The G 650 GS appeals to riders who like things simple, and the ESB008 is a simple part: one piece of aluminium, milled on CNC machines, with an adjuster in the hub and no folding joint. The hub is anodised black and holds the pivot bore; the blade is anodised in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green. Anodising colours the metal's own surface rather than adding a layer on top, so there is no paint to chip when the bike stands outside or gets brushed by a gatepost on the way into the yard.
A Single Below Its Comfort Zone
A four-stroke single fires once every two turns of the crankshaft, and at very low revs the gaps between those firing pulses become obvious. Ask the engine to pull from too low a speed and it shudders, knocks and passes the vibration through the chain to the rear wheel. Engines with more cylinders hide this; a single makes it plain. In slow traffic, on steep driveways and at walking pace, the answer is to keep the revs slightly higher and let the clutch slip a little, so the engine runs smoothly while the bike moves slowly. That means holding the lever in the friction zone longer and more often than on a twin or a four, and the hand notices it by the end of a day in town. On the G 650 GS, bringing the ESB008 closer to the grip reduces how far the fingers must open, and the long blade, made in four colours, lowers the effort of each pull. Once the engine is back in its comfortable range, let the lever out fully so the clutch stops slipping.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESB008 for the G 650 GS in two entries, 2009 to 2010 and 2011 to 2015, so this product covers 2009 to 2015. It replaces the original lever at BMW's clutch mounting. We do not offer an Accossato brake lever for the G 650 GS, so this listing covers the clutch side only.
Road Approval
The ESB008 has no documented German ABE and is sold for racetrack use.
