DescriptionThe whole story▼
Somewhere on the route there is water across the track: a ford, a flooded dip, a stream that was dry last summer. For a loaded F 800 GS Adventure, getting across calmly depends on steady drive, and steady drive at walking pace is a job for the clutch. That is where the ESB008 helps: Accossato's CNC-machined clutch lever for the 2013 to 2018 F 800 GS Adventure replaces the stock lever and lets you decide how far the blade stands from the grip.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the BMW F 800 GS Adventure, model years 2013 to 2018
- Replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mounting
- Adjustable distance between blade and grip
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm; short and long in selected colours
- Aluminium, CNC-machined and anodised
- Black hub, blade in seven colours
- Solid one-piece blade
Construction and Material Quality
Water, silt and mud are hard on anything with loose joints, and the ESB008 has none along its length: from hub to tip it is one fixed piece of aluminium. Accossato machines it on CNC equipment and anodises it afterwards, black on the hub, which carries the pivot bore and the reach adjuster, and in your chosen colour on the blade. Aluminium does not rust, and the anodised layer belongs to the metal itself, so a rinse with fresh water after a muddy crossing is enough to keep the lever clean.
Crossing Water
Before riding in, walk the crossing if you can, or at least watch the water: how deep it is, how fast it flows and what the bottom looks like. Then pick a line, select first or second gear and ride in at a steady pace, standing, with your eyes on the far bank. The one thing to avoid is stalling halfway across, because an engine that stops with its exhaust under water may not restart easily. So keep the revs up a little and control your speed with the clutch, slipping it as needed rather than letting the engine labour. That can mean holding the friction point for many seconds while the front wheel feels its way over stones you cannot see. With the ESB008 adjusted so that the friction point falls where two fingers can hold it without strain, the F 800 GS Adventure crosses at an even pace. On the far side, ride on gently and dry the brakes with a few light applications.
Fitment and Compatibility
This product covers the F 800 GS Adventure from 2013 to 2018. Where Accossato's list starts the Adventure earlier than BMW did, we have kept to the years in which the bike was really made. The lever mounts at the original clutch mounting in place of the BMW part, and for the front brake of the F 800 GS Adventure, Accossato lists the EDB001 for the same years.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE on record for this clutch lever, so it is sold for track use only.
