DescriptionThe whole story▼
Changing the sprockets is one of the oldest ways to alter a motorcycle's character, and some Shiver 900 owners do it for livelier acceleration or for calmer cruising. What is rarely mentioned is that the clutch feels different afterwards: the bike pulls away more eagerly or needs more slip, and the friction point you knew suddenly behaves in a new way. The Accossato ESC023 is a clutch lever for the Shiver 900 of 2017 to 2020, CNC-machined from aluminium, with adjustable reach and three blade lengths.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Aprilia Shiver 900, listed 2017 to 2020
- Replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mounting
- Reach to the grip adjustable near the pivot
- Blade lengths: short, standard (approximately 138 mm), long
- Seven blade colours, hub always black
- Machined from solid aluminium and anodised
- Rigid one-piece blade without folding joint
- No German ABE documented, offered for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Machining from the solid gives the ESC023 its clean shape: a CNC mill cuts the lever out of an aluminium blank, and anodising then gives it a hard, coloured surface that belongs to the metal. The hub is black and contains the pivot and the reach adjuster; the blade is anodised in your chosen colour. Between the two there is no hinge, which keeps the lever's movement simple and its feel repeatable.
After a Sprocket Change
Gearing decides how hard the engine has to work to get the bike moving. A larger rear sprocket or a smaller front one shortens the overall ratio, so the Shiver 900 pulls away with less effort and less clutch slip, but the take-up can feel more abrupt. Longer gearing does the opposite: calmer at cruising speed, while the clutch has to slip for longer before the bike rolls freely, especially uphill or two-up.
Either way, the first rides after the change are the time to relearn the clutch and to adjust the lever to its new behaviour. With shorter gearing, a lever set so the friction point falls in the middle of your finger movement helps you soften the take-off. With longer gearing, the long blade in blue, gold, green or orange gives more leverage for the extra slipping and spreads it over more finger travel. The standard ESC023 of about 138 mm, offered in every colour, remains the closest match to the original. Check chain tension and alignment after any sprocket work too, since a slack or misaligned chain also makes pulling away feel jerky.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESC023 for the Shiver 900 from 2017 to 2020, fitted at the original clutch mounting in place of the standard lever. The brake side of the Shiver 900 is covered by the EDF023 for the same years. Both levers are also listed for the Dorsoduro 900, the supermoto-styled bike built around the same engine.
Road Approval
This clutch lever has no German ABE on file and is therefore sold for track riding.
