DescriptionThe whole story▼
Few moments in motorcycling put as much weight on the left hand as a standing start. The lights go out, and within a second the clutch decides whether the bike leaps cleanly away, bogs down or lifts its front wheel. RSV4 Factory owners who race meet that moment at every event. The Accossato ESV004 is a clutch lever for the RSV4 Factory, listed from 2009 to 2017 including the APRC versions, machined from aluminium, with adjustable reach and three lengths.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Aprilia RSV4 Factory, listed 2009 to 2017
- Covers the APRC versions in Accossato's list
- Replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mounting
- Reach adjuster to set where the lever meets your fingers
- Short, standard (about 138 mm) or long blade
- Seven blade colours; hub anodised black
- CNC-machined, rigid, no folding joint
- No German ABE documented; sold for the track
Construction and Material Quality
At a race start the clutch is fed out through its friction point under full load, and any flex in the lever would blur what the fingers feel. The ESV004 is milled from solid aluminium on CNC machines and has no joint along its blade, so it stays stiff and predictable. Anodising gives it a two-tone finish: a black hub for the pivot and the reach adjuster, and a blade coloured in one of seven shades.
The Start Line
A good start is a controlled release, not a fast one. With the revs held where the engine pulls strongly, the lever goes out quickly to the friction point and is then fed out more gradually as the bike gathers speed, the rider's body forward over the tank to keep the front down. The APRC versions of the RSV4 Factory include a launch control that manages the engine side of that process. The release of the lever remains the rider's job, and it is the part that decides the first few metres.
Consistency comes from repetition, and repetition needs a lever that meets your fingers in exactly the same place at every start. Set the reach in race gloves so the friction point falls with your fingers well curled, where small movements are easiest to control, and practise starts at track days where the organiser allows it. The standard ESV004 of about 138 mm gives the full hand room; the long blade, in blue, gold, green and orange, spreads the release over more finger travel for extra precision. Riders who hold the clutch with two fingers on the grid often prefer the short version, available in blue, gold, green, orange and silver.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESV004 for the RSV4 Factory from 2009 to 2017, naming the standard Factory, the APRC versions and a later edition within those years. It fits at the original clutch mounting in place of the stock lever. The matching brake lever is the EDF099, which Accossato also lists for the RSV4 Factory of 2021 to 2024; for those newer bikes, this clutch lever is not listed.
Road Approval
No German ABE, the general operating permit, has been documented for the ESV004. It is sold as a component for the track.
