DescriptionThe whole story▼
The RS4 125 wears the look of Aprilia's RSV4 superbike, scaled down around a four-stroke single for riders with a 125 licence. For many owners it is the first motorcycle with a manual gearbox, and the clutch is the control that takes longest to learn. The Accossato ESS248 is a clutch lever for the RS4 125 of 2011 to 2017, machined from aluminium and fitted with a reach adjuster and a choice of three blade lengths, so a young or smaller hand can reach the friction point without stretching.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Aprilia RS4 125, 2011 to 2017
- Replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mounting
- Reach adjuster for smaller hands and thinner gloves
- Short blade in blue, gold, green, orange or silver
- Standard length about 138 mm in all seven colours; long in blue, gold, green, orange
- Machined from solid aluminium; anodised finish with black hub
- One rigid piece, no folding joint
- No German ABE documented; sold for track use
Construction and Material Quality
A 125 is often a rider's first bike, and first bikes tend to be ridden in all weathers and parked outside. Anodising suits that kind of life. The ESS248 is CNC-machined from a solid aluminium blank and then anodised, so its colour is a hard layer grown from the metal rather than a coating that can flake. The hub, containing pivot and adjuster, is always black; the blade takes the colour. No joint separates hub and tip, which keeps the lever's feel constant from the first ride to the last.
Race Looks, Learner Hands
Aprilia's sporting name was built largely in the small Grand Prix classes, where its 125 and 250 machines won many world titles, and the RS4 125 was designed to look the part. The rider on board, however, is often sixteen or seventeen and has held a clutch lever for a few months at most. Learning the friction point on a small single is a matter of repetition: pulling away, stopping, pulling away again, until the hand knows where the bike starts to move without searching for it.
That learning is easier when the lever fits. A young hand may not comfortably reach a blade positioned for an adult glove, and the result is a clutch released with the fingertips, abruptly and a little late. Moving the ESS248 closer to the grip lets the fingers wrap the blade properly. The short version, in blue, gold, green, orange or silver, keeps the lever compact; the standard blade of about 138 mm, made in every colour, is closest to the original. The RS4 125's single-cylinder engine needs frequent gear changes to stay in its rev range, so a lever that is comfortable to pull pays off on every ride.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list names this bike as RS-4 125 and opens slightly earlier than the model itself, which reached the market for 2011; this product therefore covers the RS4 125 from 2011 to 2017. The ESS248 fits the original clutch mounting and replaces the standard lever. Accossato does not list a brake lever for the RS4 125, so this clutch lever is offered on its own; if you prefer a discreet look next to the standard brake lever, black is the understated option.
Road Approval
We have no German ABE on file for this lever, so it is offered for racetrack use.
