DescriptionThe whole story▼
Few owners leave a cruiser exactly as it came from the dealer, and the California 1400 Custom, as its name suggests, invites personal touches more than most. One of the most common changes is the handlebar, and a new bar changes where the brake lever meets the hand. The Accossato EDF023 is a brake lever for the California Custom ABS 1400 of 2014 to 2020. Made from CNC-milled aluminium, it replaces the stock blade on the original master cylinder and lets you choose how far it sits from the grip, which helps a great deal once the bars have been swapped.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the Moto Guzzi California Custom ABS 1400, 2014 to 2020
- Uses the original master cylinder
- Distance to the grip adjustable
- Short, standard or long blade; standard approximately 138 mm
- Anodised blade in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green
- Hub always black
- CNC-machined aluminium, one piece, no folding joint
- No German ABE documented, track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato mills the EDF023 from a solid aluminium blank and anodises it in two colours, the hub black and the blade in the shade you pick. Both the pivot and the reach adjuster live in the hub. Since the blade has no hinge, the lever is one continuous piece from the master cylinder to your fingertips. On a custom machine, where details are often chosen as carefully as the paint, the crisp machined edges of the blade are part of the appeal.
When the Handlebar Changes
Pull-back bars, flatter bars and risers all move the grips, and with them the angle at which your hand approaches the brake lever. A change that looks small on paper can leave the stock lever too far away for comfortable braking, or at an angle that bends the wrist. After any handlebar change on the California Custom, set the controls in two steps. First rotate the master cylinder on the bar so that, sitting normally, your forearm and the back of your hand form a straight line towards the lever. Then use the adjuster on the EDF023 to bring the blade to where your fingertips rest on it at the first joint. Check as well that the brake hose and cables still have enough slack at full steering lock and that nothing touches the tank. If the new bar places your hands wider or higher, the long blade in blue, gold, green or orange offers the fingers a larger target.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the California 1400 Custom, Accossato gives the model years 2014 to 2020. The EDF023 goes on the Custom's original front brake master cylinder in place of the stock blade. If you want the clutch side to match, the ESC023 is listed for the same bike and years. Black and red are made in the standard length only, silver in standard and short, and the other four colours in all three lengths.
Road Approval
The EDF023 has no documented German ABE and is sold exclusively for use on the track.
