DescriptionThe whole story▼
Audace is Italian for bold, and the California Audace 1400 was the muscular, stripped-back member of Moto Guzzi's 1400 cruiser family. A cruiser's seating tempts many riders to rely on the rear brake, yet on a heavy machine the front brake still does most of the stopping. The Accossato EDF023 replaces the front brake lever of the Audace for the model years 2015 to 2020. It fits the factory master cylinder, is cut from solid aluminium and can be moved closer to or further from the grip, so the front brake is always within easy reach.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Moto Guzzi California Audace 1400, 2015 to 2020
- Works with the original master cylinder
- Adjustable distance to the grip
- Standard blade of approximately 138 mm in all colours
- Short and long blades in selected colours
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised, black hub
- Fixed one-piece lever, no hinge
- No German ABE documented; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
This lever starts life as solid aluminium, milled to shape on CNC machines and anodised afterwards. The anodised layer is part of the metal rather than a film on top of it, and it gives the hub its black finish and the blade its colour. Pivot and reach adjuster are housed in the hub. From there the blade runs without a joint to its tip, so the force of a firm pull goes straight into the master cylinder of the Audace instead of being absorbed by a hinge.
Front Brake First on a Cruiser
Cruiser riders often fall into the habit of stopping mainly with the rear brake, because the pedal sits right under the boot and feels reassuring. On a machine as heavy as the California Audace 1400, that habit costs distance. Under braking, weight shifts forward onto the front tyre, which is why the front brake can deliver most of the stopping force while the lightly loaded rear tyre contributes far less. Using both, with the front taking the larger share, is the sound approach: squeeze the lever progressively, add the pedal gently, and keep the bike upright and straight while you do it. A well-placed lever makes it more likely that you use it early and with conviction. Adjust the EDF023 so it lies under your fingertips with your arms relaxed on the bar; if you prefer a full-hand pull, the long blade, made in blue, gold, green and orange, gives four fingers room and turns firm braking into a reflex rather than an effort.
Fitment and Compatibility
The Audace 1400 appears on Accossato's list for the EDF023 from 2015 to 2020, and the lever goes on the bike's own front master cylinder in place of the Moto Guzzi part. For the clutch, Accossato's ESC023 covers the same years. Every colour is available in the standard length of approximately 138 mm; blue, gold, green and orange add short and long blades, silver a short one.
Road Approval
No ABE for use on German roads is documented, which is why this lever is sold for the track.
